Foundation Program Manager Lin Freer Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Sonora, CA...Sonora Area Foundation announces that program manager Lin Freer is celebrating her 20 year anniversary with the Foundation. Lin manages the grant programs and provides information and assistance to grant applicants and recipients, helping them with the granting process from initial contact, through grant evaluation, and final reporting. Along with scholarship administration, Lin is also responsible for managing grants that the Foundation receives from large private funders, which are re-granted for “Community Needs.”  Lin has an extensive background in commercial banking, marketing coordination, and office management with an investment-banking firm. Lin, a native New Yorker, is married to John and has two children.

Caltrans Upgrading Guardrails SR-49 & SR-108 In Tuolumne County

Tuolumne County – Caltrans is preparing for a project that will upgrade guardrails and make other improvements on 16 miles of State Route 49/(SR-49) and SR-108, including increasing the truck-turning radius at SR-108 and South Washington Street. The project is scheduled to begin Monday, March 20, 2017, and be completed in June 2017. Crews are primarily scheduled to work Sunday night through Thursday night, from 7:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. One way-traffic control will be used and drivers should expect 10 minute delays.

High Speed Chase Leads To Arrest Of Felon On Weapon & License Charges

Jamestown, CA...On March 9, 2017 at approximately 4:21 pm, CHP Officer Mahaney attempted to make a stop on a black 2013 Ford F-150 on Lime Kiln Road for defective windshield and not displaying a front license plate. The driver, later identified as 24 year old Sonora resident Kenneth Edward Job, accelerated rapidly from CHP Officer Mahaney in an attempt to flee from capture. Job led Officer Mahaney and additional responding units on a pursuit that lasted approximately 15 minutes and covered approximately 10 miles at speeds varying from 25 miles per hour to in excess of 75 miles per hour.

Sonora Police Arrest Florida Prowler

Sonora, CA...On Wednesday,shortly after 8:30 a.m., a resident of Norlin Street in called the Sonora Police Department to report spotting a subject walking from behind her residence. She described the subject as wearing a reflective vest and a work identification card with his picture on it around his neck and said he refused to give her a reason for being on her property.

70th Annual La Grange Rodeo Sunday April 2, 2017

La Grange, CA...Heads up! Start planning early for the first rodeo of the spring season, Sunday April 2nd in La Grange. You'll see bull riding, bareback and saddle bronc riding, team roping and calf roping, steer wrestling and barrel racing. And kids, don't forget the famous goat scramble! La Grange Rodeo events start at 8am; be sure to get there before noon to see the Queen Ceremony, and 1pm is the Grand Entry. It's all at the La Grange Rodeo Arena, overlooking the Tuolumne River canyon, just east of town.
