Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit Burn Permit Suspension Lifted |

San Andreas, CA...Effective Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 8:00 AM the burn permit suspension in Tuolumne, Calaveras, eastern Stanislaus and eastern San Joaquin counties will be lifted. CAL FIRE Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit Chief Josh White is formally cancelling the burn permit suspension and advises that those possessing current and valid agriculture and residential burn permits can now resume burning on permissible burn days. Agriculture burns must be inspected by CAL FIRE prior to burning until the end of the peak fire season. Inspections may be required for burns other than agriculture burns. This can be verified by contacting your local Air Quality Management District.

Repairs Close Sections of Cottonwood Road Through Dec. 15 |

Tuolumne, CA, Major reconstruction began today on 11 sites along Cottonwood Road (Forest Route 1N04) on the Stanislaus National Forest. The road was severely damaged by winter storms in 2016-2017 and was reopened to the public after the Forest Service made temporary repairs in July. The road was approved for funding assistance from the Federal Highway Administration under the Emergency Relief for Federally Owned Roads program.

Sonora, CA...Adventist Health Sonora, along with partners throughout Tuolumne County, is participating in the 2017 California Statewide Medical and Health Exercise (SWMHE) on Thursday, November 16 at Adventist Health Sonora’s main campus beginning at 7:30 a.m. This full scale exercise is based on a hospital campus active shooter scenario and will help our community to be better prepared for emergencies and incidents of all types and sizes. This is a DRILL and not an actual event. This exercise will include participants from: Adventist Health Sonora. Cal Fire, California Highway Patrol, Sonora Fire Department, Sonora Police Department, Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians, Tuolumne County Ambulance, Tuolumne County Office of Emergency Services, Tuolumne County Public Health Tuolumne County Sheriff.

Hwy 108 DUI Head On Collision Sends Four To Hospital & One To Jail |

Sonora, CA...On Sunday, November 12, 2017, at approximately 4:12 am, 36 year old Salinas resident, Roberto Martinez Lira, was driving a 2004 Cadillac Escalade eastbound on State Route 108 through Washington Street. At this time, 43 year old Sonora resident, Alonso Solis Tolentino was driving a 2002 Toyota Rav4 westbound on State Route 108 approaching Washington Street. Due to Martinez Lira's high level of alcohol intoxication, he allowed the Cadillac Escalade to travel over the solid double yellow lines into the westbound lanes, directly into the path of Solis Tolentino. Subsequently, the vehicles collided head-on.

San Andreas, CA...In the Mother Lode League Football Playoff action over the weekend Calaveras and Summerville's seasons ended with Calaveras dropping their game against Ripon 28 -13 and Summerville ended up being rolled by Hilmar 47 -3. Contrats to all the local teams for a great season and Sonora will take on Colfax on November 17th.

Jamestown, CA...To honor their service and celebrate the patriotic holiday, California State Parks, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park (SHP) and the California State Railroad Museum Foundation are proud to offer veterans and active military personnel with complimentary excursion train rides plus complimentary Park admission on Saturday, November 11, 2017. Veteran and active military personnel are encouraged to wear their uniforms with pride while enjoying a special excursion train ride behind diesel locomotive No. 1265, a 1952 former Army diesel which last served at the Riverbank Army Ammunition Plant. The special diesel locomotive will be operated by a number of crew members who are also military veterans. Excursion train rides are available at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on this special day, delighting visitors from near and far during a six-mile, 45-minute round trip ride along the rails of the famous “Movie Railroad” while passing through California’s scenic Gold Country. All train ride tickets on Veterans Day are first-come, first-served.

Probation Search Lands Trio Back in Jail on Felony Charges |

Sonora, CA...On Tuesday afternoon the High Risk Probation Team and the Tuolumne Narcotics Team conducted a probation search at the Tamarron Mobile Estates located on Mono Way in Sonora. During a search of the home belonging to 58-old- Lindon Hill, 54-year-old Sandra Cole and 46-year-old Rodney Kulp, several items consistent with narcotics sales were located such as a scale, small plastic baggies and approximately 26 grams of methamphetamine. The three were arrested and transported to the Tuolumne County Jail.

WWII Era Grenades, Mortar Rounds & Ordnance Rendered Safe By Calaveras Bomb Squad |

La Grange, CA...Tuolumne County Sheriff's Deputies received assistance from The Calaveras Bomb Squad yesterday morning at the Lake Don Pedro Storage Facility in La Grange to remove items of military ordnance. The WWII era explosives were found by a woman cleaning out the unit of her deceased father.
