Sheriff's Dept Says Beware of Solicitation Scams

Posted by: thepinetree on 03/01/2018 09:42 AM
Sonora, CA...From the Tuolumne Sheriff's Dept...."This week our office has received numerous calls for service regarding people going door to door attempting to solicit money from residents. They may be aggressive magazine sellers, claiming to be raising money for a trip or for charity, the backstory isn’t always the same. We have determined this soliciting sales scheme is a scam. Last night, Deputies located a woman named Sierra Corbin in the area of Crystal Falls Market in Sonora after it was reported she was going door to door requesting money for different reasons. She was given a citation for not being an itinerant vendor and told to cease all solicitation. Corbin is one of at least five people believed to be in the area running this scam.

The man driving the truck had gotten it stuck in the driveway due to the snow. Deputies arrived on scene at 7:49 and the man took off running. One Deputy gave chase as the other paralleled the action in a patrol SUV. The man ran through an occupied house and out the front door as a Deputy closed in on him. Both Deputies reunited in the patrol SUV and caught up the man just as he flagged down a Jeep.

It is with a heavy heart that I've decided not to seek reelection to the Office of Sheriff of Tuolumne County. The decision not to run has been the most difficult and painstaking decision of my life. This community has embraced me with open arms, and for that I'm eternally grateful.
