Yosemite National Park Continues to Repair Big Oak Flat Road

Yosemite, CA...Yosemite National Park reports that progress continues to be made on repairs to the Big Oak Flat road. In early April, road crews dug down 65 feet to the bottom of an underground spring that caused soils to erode. The slope has been stabilized and soil and rock have been brought into the park to rebuild the roadbed. As of today, the roadbed has been built up 26 feet, which is about half way to the surface of the road. The park pledges to announce an opening date for the Big Oak Flat road as soon as it becomes available.

With beautiful wildflowers still in bloom, the six-mile, 45-minute roundtrip ride takes passengers through the rolling Gold Country foothills, passing through meadows and along grassy hillsides covered with ancient oak trees. Riverside Man Donald L. Culver, 60 Lost His Life In Motorcycle Accident On La Grange Road

La Grange, CA...On Friday, April 14, 2017, at approximately 7:02 pm, 60 year old Riverside resident, Donald L. Culver, was riding his 1997 Harley Davidson northbound on La Grange Road, south of Old Don Pedro Road. Culver drove over the solid double yellow lines, across the southbound lane, and off of the west road edge. Culver lost control of the motorcycle and it overturned. Culver was ejected over 100 feet and sustained fatal injuries. The cause of this collision is still under investigation and as such, impairment has not yet been determined.

Tuolumne County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform one-way traffic control on northbound and southbound State Route 49 from Harvard Mine Road to Rolling Hills Road for guardrail work. Crews will be working Monday, April 17, 2017, through Friday, April 21, 2017, from 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Motorists should expect 10 minute delays. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible.

Tuolumne County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform one-way traffic control on northbound and southbound State Route 49 (SR-49) from Fairview Lane to Woods Creek for slope clearing and repair. Crews will be working Monday, April 17, 2017, through Tuesday, April 18, 2017, from 8:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Motorists should expect 10 minute delays. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible.

Construction Continues On James E. Roberts Bridge

Tuolumne County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform one-way traffic control on eastbound and westbound State Route 120 at the James E. Roberts Bridge in Tuolumne County for bridge work. The bridge will be under one-way traffic control through the project’s completion in November 2017. Motorists should expect 10 minute delays.

Young Man From Washington Died In Tragic Tree Work Fatality On Saturday

Twain Harte, CA...A young man from Washington perished in a tragic tree work fatality on Saturday. He becomes the second recent death. From the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Department "The young man who died Saturday from a tree accident in Twain Harte, is 21 year old Jorge Garcia Moctezuma from Washington. Jorge and his crew at Action Trees a company out of Kentucky, were working in the area under a tree removal contract through Trees Inc. and PG&E. Jorge was working on a 100 foot Ponderosa Tree and had just cut a 20 foot section from the top. The cut piece came down and swung back and forth causing the tree Jorge was on to break below him. The tree fell to the ground on Cedar Springs Road taking Jorge and live power lines with it. Emergency personnel arrived and sadly Jorge was deceased. The crew who witnessed this tragic event were very distraught. The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office Chaplin was called and stayed on scene to be with the crew members.
