Ramp Closures for Paving Near State Route 108 from Mono Way to Peaceful Oak Road

Tuolumne County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the eastbound and westbound off and on-ramps on State Route 108 from Mono Way to Peaceful Oak Road for paving operations. Crews will be working Sunday, October 1, 2017, though Friday, October 6, 2017, from 8:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Motorists should expect delays of 15 minutes.

Traffic Controls Persist for James E. Roberts Bridge Construction

Tuolumne County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform one-way traffic control on eastbound and westbound State Route 120 at the James E. Roberts Bridge in Tuolumne County for bridge work. The bridge will be under one-way traffic control through the project’s completion in November 2017. Motorists should expect 10 minute delays.

Domestic Battery, False Imprisonment & Biting Lead to Arrest of Sonora Man

Sonora, CA...On September 27, 2017, around 1:20 p.m., the Sonora Police Department received a call of a female subject being treated at Adventist Health Sonora for injuries resulting from an assault. Officer Durham arrived and made contact with the female victim. Officer Durham learned that Joshua Roy Perry, 32 of Sonora, became involved in an argument with his girlfriend, the victim, around 9:00 a.m. in the 600 block of Shaws Flat Road.

Tuolumne Sheriff's Department Investigating Robbery Near Columbia College

Columbia, CA...Tuolumne County Sheriff's Detectives are investigating an armed robbery incident that took place yesterday evening near the entrance of the Columbia College property. A man was robbed of his wallet at gunpoint by two men identified as 25-year old Michael Valentine and 22-year-old Gabriel Uribecarrion. Valentine and Uribecarrion left the area in a black and purple Honda and were later located and detained by Sonora Police Officers at 250 Greenley Road. Sheriff's Deputies arrived on scene and took the suspects into custody.

Update on Fatal, 1,300 Ton Rockfall in Yosemite National Park

Yosemite, CA...A series of rockfalls occurred yesterday afternoon from the Southeast face of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. Seven rockfalls occurred over a four-hour time span, with the initial rockfall happening at 1:52 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time. A preliminary estimate for the cumulative volume of all seven rockfalls is about 16,000 cubic feet (450 cubic meters), or about 1,300 tons. The irregular "sheet" of rock that fell is estimated to be 130 feet tall, 65 feet wide, and 3-10 feet thick. The source point is about 650 feet above the base of El Capitan, or about 1,800 feet above the floor of Yosemite Valley (which is at 4,000 feet in elevation).

Jamestown, CA...After her shift at Sierra Conservation Center, Supervising Registered Nurse II Maria Cope was on her way home when she came across a lone ambulance helping victims of a car accident. Not seeing any other emergency vehicles such as fire or law enforcement, she stopped her car to offer assistance. The paramedic attending to the injured driver said there was a second vehicle involved in the accident but it was over the side of the canyon. The vehicles had been in a head-on collision.


SCC SUpervising Registered Nurse II Maria Cope and Officer Phil Hope climbed into a canyon to help crash victims.

Rockfall on El Capitan, One Fatality & One Injured

Yosemite, CA...A rockfall of undetermined size occurred on El Capitan at about 1:55 pm today. The release point appears to be near the "Waterfall Route," a popular climbing route on the East Buttress of El Capitan. This is the area where Horsetail Fall flows in winter and spring conditions. There is one confirmed fatality and one injured person. Park rangers are working to transport the injured person to receive medical care.outside of the park.

U.S. Citizenship Ceremony at Glacier Point

Yosemite, CA...From Yosemite National Park....“Oh, say can you see,….” 50 people from 15 countries?! On September 19 that’s how many people became naturalized U.S. citizens during a ceremony at Glacier Point. In case you missed it, this video captures the special event which was the 10th of its kind conducted in Yosemite. Countries of origin included the United Kingdom, Australia, Bulgaria, Zambia, China, India, and Mexico. Welcome and congratulations!
