Above & Beyond Service From Sonora CHP

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/09/2018 10:07 AM
Jamestown, CA...On Tuesday, shortly after 6:00 pm, one of our officers contacted two pedestrians on SR-120 at SR-108, Yosemite Junction. Their ride to Escalon from Black Oak Casino had fallen through. One of the individuals required a wheelchair and they were unable to find transportation that could accommodate them, so they decided to walk. Generally our officers will provide a ride to a safe location but unfortunately the wheelchair did not fold and would not fit in the patrol utility vehicle. Exhausting all of the usual resources, our officer thought outside of the box and responded in his personal vehicle.

Sonora Pass Opening For The Season Today at 2pm

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/03/2018 01:48 PM
Kennedy Meadows, CA...Caltrans crews have removed the winter snow, cleared the debris, made necessary repairs and plan to reopen State Route 108 (SR-108)/Sonora Pass at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2018. Sonora Pass rises to 9,623 feet, making it the second highest pass in the Sierra. Even with low volumes of snow, Sonora Pass and Ebbetts Pass require closure during the winter season. Sonora Pass has grades in excess of 20% and Ebbetts Pass had grades in excess of 23%, far exceeding typical highway grades of 6%. The steep grades, high elevation and narrow road cannot accommodate snow removal equipment and vehicular traffic at the same time.
