Forest Service Open House Sept. 6 to Discuss Potential Snowmobile Restrictions in OSV Draft EIS

Sonora, CA...Forest Supervisor Jason Kuiken will host an open house Thursday, Sept. 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Stanislaus National Forest Supervisor’s Office. Members of the public may review maps and discuss the draft Environmental Impact Statement alternatives with forest staff. Maps of the proposed Over-Snow vehicle-use designations for each alternative will be on display.

Flash Flood Warning Issued for Donnell Fire Burn Scar Area

Bear Valley, CA...The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Northeastern Tuolumne County and Southeastern Alpine County in northern California Until 615 PM PDT. At 316 PM PDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms with heavy rain across the Donnell fire burn scar. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly. Excessive rainfall over the Donnell fire burn scar will result in debris flows. Debris flow can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials. Some locations that will experience flooding include Dardanelle and Kennedy Meadow.

Body of Ceres Man Possibly Recovered at New Melones

Tuttletown, CA...A sad discovery at New Melones from the Tuolumne Sheriff's Dept...."Yesterday morning a fisherman spotted a body in the water near the shore at New Melones Reservoir. 58-year-old Richard Matlock of Ceres was reported to have drowned in that area two weeks ago after jumping from a boat to swim, however he was not located.

Two Sonora Men Arrested on Drug & Other Charges

Sonora, CA...The Labor Day weekend ended with a drug bust and two men in jail. On Monday evening, our deputies responded to Highway 108 near N. Sunshine Road in Sonora to assist CHP on a traffic stop where a large amount of methamphetamine was spotted in the vehicle. A search of the car and occupants, 18-year-old Bryton Kuhl and 49-year-old Robert Ybarra Jr. both of Sonora, turned up 26 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and more than $1,000 in cash.

Deputy Andrew Long Reporting for Duty

Sonora, CA...From the Tuolumne Sheriff's Dept...."Congratulations to Deputy Andrew Long who successfully completed the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Field Training Program. Deputy Long grew up in Tuolumne County and graduated from Sonora High School. He joined the military after graduation and served as a Navy Corpsman for seven years. During that time he completed a tour in Afghanistan with the Marine Corp and authored a book on lessons learned from emergency and combat first aid which went on to be used in a course taught to Navy Corpsman on the West Coast.
Andrew Long holds a Bachelor’s Degree in homeland security and emergency management.

Stolen Motorcycle Recovered and Pair Arrested in Jamestown

Sonora, CA...From the Tuolumne Sheriff's Dept. on Aug 30th..."One of the best things about our job is helping people. In this case, we reunited a man with his stolen motorcycle. Early this morning,one of our deputies saw a man and woman with a motorcycle at the Sierra Energy Gas Station on Hwy 108 in Jamestown. The deputy questioned 40-year-old James Thurman Jr. and 32-year-old Nichole Star, both of Sonora, because the motorcycle did not have any license plates. The deputy found a VIN number on the motorcycle and did a records check which revealed it was stolen.

Sonora CHP Officer Olga Boenisch Retires.

Sonora, CA....From the Tuolumne Sheriff's Dept..."We were honored to be a part of the send-off for this amazing woman. Officer Olga Boenisch has been with the California Highway Patrol for 17 years. Prior to joining the agency, she worked as a Sheriff’s Deputy in L.A. County for two years. Not only is she a great officer but she is one strong woman.
