Arrests Made After Assaults in Sonora

Sonora, CA...From the Sonora Police Dept...."Last night about 10:45 p.m., we received multiple reports of a disturbance involving a vehicle and several people near the 100 block of Lyons Street. Officers responded and ultimately arrested 25-year-old Francisco Rico of Sonora and a 16-year-old male Tuolumne resident for felony battery.

Yosemite National Park Honors First Responders

Yosemite, CA....From the National Park Service..."Here in Yosemite National Park, employees provide law enforcement, EMS, search and rescue, and fire fighting efforts. We are so grateful to have an outstanding staff of dedicated first responders protecting this park! On Thursday, the US Postal Service honored first responders from Yosemite, CAL FIRE, and the U.S. Forest Service at a special ceremony in Yosemite National Park in front of the Yosemite Valley Post Office. Featured speakers included Kelly Martin, Eric Scott, Nancy Koerperich, Craig Balbalian, and USPS representatives. In September the USPS released the Honoring First Responders Forever stamp, shown in the photos.

Jamestown, CA...From the Tuolumne Sheriff's Office....."Deputy Vince Lee was patrolling the Jamestown area just before 3 o’clock Sunday morning when he received information about a purse that had just been stolen from a parked car in East Sonora. The suspects were reportedly driving a silver Toyota truck and headed west toward him.

Fall Events and Recreation Continues at New Melones Lake

Tuttletown, CA...The Bureau of Reclamation will host a variety of events and activities for people of all ages this fall at New Melones Lake. From kayaking to critters, there is something for everyone! Starting with Acorn Planting Day on Saturday, November 3, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuttletown Recreation Area. The majestic oak is synonymous with the foothills of the Motherlode. Yet, these long-lived trees have had many challenges to their survival. Join park rangers to plant acorns and learn how people can support the iconic oak woodland. Volunteers should dress for mild to cool fall weather, bring snacks and water, and wear a hat, sunscreen, sturdy shoes and bring work gloves (if possible). Registration begins at the New Melones Lake Visitor Center at 8:30 a.m.

Two Visitors Fall from Taft Point in Yosemite National Park

Yosemite, CA...A male and female visitor died in an apparent fall from Taft Point in Yosemite National Park. Yosemite National Park Rangers are recovering the bodies this morning. This incident is under investigation and no further details are available. No photos or videos are available. The identification of the deceased has not yet been determined.

Matthew Grogg, 23 Arrested in Jupiter Area Homicide Case

Sonora, CA...From the Tuolumne Sheriff's Dept..."A week-long investigation by Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office Detectives has ended in an arrest for the killing of a Jupiter man. On the evening of October 16th, deputies were called out to a home on Italian Bar Road near Rose Creek for a report of a man who had been shot. 31-year-old Scott Andrew Rockey was found dead outside his home.
