Major Injuries to Woman Flown to UC Davis, Minor Injuries to Big Rig Driver in Hwy 49 Collision

Columbia, CA...On September 20, 2017, at approximately 1015 hours, a 3 axle Peterbilt dump truck loaded with sand was traveling northbound on SR-49 south of Springfield Road at approximately 45 mph. A Ford F-250 pick-up truck was traveling southbound SR-49 south of Springfield Road at an unknown speed. This location is just north of the city of Sonora. The Ford F-250 crossed over the double yellow lines into the northbound lane, colliding with the Peterbilt head on. The Peterbilt dump truck overturned blocking both lanes of SR-49 and spilling the load of sand onto the roadway. The Ford F-250 sustained major damage and subsequently caught on fire.

Sad Ending to Domestic Case as Sonora Man Takes His Own Life in CHP Parking Lot

Jamestown, CA...From the Sonora Police Dept.."Update at 9:22 AM:...The vehicle came to a stop in the parking lot of the California Highway Patrol Office in Jamestown. The driver, 24-year-old TJ Matthew Porter of Sonora died from a self inflicted gun shot wound shortly after.

Update on SR-49 Traffic Collision from 09/20/17

Columbia, CA...The driver of the Ford F-250 from yesterday’s traffic collision has been identified as 45 year old San Andreas resident Renee Ilene Hogan. She is still in critical but stable condition at UC Davis Intensive Care Unit. On September 20, 2017, at approximately 1015 hours, a 3 axle Peterbilt dump truck loaded with sand was traveling northbound on SR-49 south of Springfield Road at approximately 45 mph. A Ford F-250 pick-up truck was traveling southbound SR-49 south of Springfield Road at an unknown speed.

Sonora, CA...Please join us for this year’s Tip-a-Cop fundraiser event on October 17th, 4-8 pm at Applebee’s Restaurant in Sonora. A law enforcement officer will be teamed up with a Special Olympics Athlete, who will then help one of Applebee’s employees. The trio will wait on tables and serve customers throughout the evening.

Sonora, CA...From the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Dept. on September 15th..."The Tuolumne Narcotics Team saw Lauri Biehle driving in Jamestown around 10:15 this morning and stopped her at Willow and 5th Avenue where she was taken into custody.

Railtown 1897 Celebrates Autumn With Special Apple Harvest Activities on October 7

Jamestown, CA...California State Parks, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park (SHP) and the California State Railroad Museum Foundation will host the 3rd Annual Apple Harvest Day on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at Railtown 1897 SHP. Apple Harvest Day celebrates the history of apple production in Tuolumne County – which dates back to the early days of the gold rush – and the Sierra Railway’s part in both promoting apple cultivation and transporting the produce and products. The special event will include interpretive displays, a slide presentation on the history of Tuolumne County apples, crafts and games for kids, a free booklet on fun apple facts and trivia plus a heritage apple quiz with locally grown apples as prizes.
