Angels Camp, CA....The 21st Annual La Contenta Pro-Am Golf Tournament benefiting the Calaveras Community Foundation (CCF) will be a Cinco de Mayo celebration this year. The always popular event, which features a prize purse of $4,000 for pro golfers and more than $2,000 for amateur players, will take place on Monday, May 5, at the Valley Springs golf course. Model Railroads, Clampers and More to Help Celebrate Valley Springs Train Times

Valley Springs, CA...One hundred and twenty-three years and one day after the first train of the San Joaquin & Sierra Nevada Railroad pulled into Valley Springs, the town will celebrate that event with a rededication of its historic train depot, a huge model railroad layout, and more. The Valley Springs Train Times event at the intersection of Highways 12 and 26, on Saturday, April 26, 2008, free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., is sponsored by the Society for the Preservation of West Calaveras History (SPWCH), the Valley Springs Area Business Association and the Historic Valley Springs Train Depot....

Jenny Lind, CA....The MythBusters are making their 5th appearance in Calaveras County to film an upcoming episode. Today's Myth involves testing some scenes from the Caddyshack movies about explosives and gophers. They had us swear a vow of secrecy to protect the outcome of the MythBusting. San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital is sponsoring a Health Career Fair at Toyon Middle School for all 8th graders on March 21, 2008. The purpose of the fair is to help develop productive careers by developing and identifying goals for high school and post secondary academic paths. There are 265 8th graders at Toyon Middle School who are participating in the Fair. As of today there are 29 booths representing health care careers, including some of the areas first responders including air and ground ambulance and sheriff’s officers. The hospital alone has over 80 vocations that will be represented...

Ronald Lee Platt of Valley Springs Has Passed Away at 55 Years Old

Valley Springs, CA...Ronald Lee Platt passed away on Saturday from natural causes at his home in Valley Springs. Mr. Platt was a native of Stockton and grew up there. He graduated in 1970 fro Stagg High School, and moved to the Bay Area. He started working as a pipefitter and was initiated in 1974 in UA Local #342 in Oakland. He retired in 2001, and always took pride in a "Job Well Done." He and his wife move to Valley Springs in 1994. Ron enjoyed jazz music and helping others, including working on computers. He became interested in politics and helped energize the Calaveras County Democratic Central Committee. He was elected Chair in 2007, and was also a member of...

Rear End Chain Reaction Crash Sends San Jose Woman to Modesto Memorial Via Life-Flight

Valley Springs, CA...A three vehicle rear end collision sent a 48 year old San Jose woman to Memorial Hospital by air last night. Two vehicles were stopped at a stop sign near the Hwy 12 & SR 26 intersection when the third vehicle struck them from behind. The vehicle was unable to stop for the waiting traffic. The impact drove the initial car struck into the back of another waiting car. The CHP release is enclosed...

Angels Camp, CA...We had the pleasure to chat for a few minutes with The Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce's Executive Director, Diane Gray. One of the big pushes for the Chamber this year will be Economic Development and bringing additional jobs to the county. The Chamber is meeting with Calaveras County Board of Supervisors Chair, Steve Wilensky next week. A Supervisor's Study Session will be held at a later date on Economic Development. This will enable what everyone can do to enhance the economic vitality of our area....
