Traffic Update..At Least Two Flown with Injuries From Afternoon Accident

Valley Springs, CA...Crews are working the tail end of an accident that sent at least two by medi-flight to Sagramento and Modesto hospitals. Before 4pm this afternoon a vehicle overturned off the roadway and into the trees on Hwy 12 near Burson Road. Please use caution in the area and we will not doubt have more information from CHP on this incident later....

Nancy Moritz of Burson passed away May 11, 2013 at the age of 80. She was born and raised in Menlo Park, Ca. Living her entire life in Calif. She was a member of the Lyons Club, Moose Lodge, Fire and Police Wives, Wallace Burson Assn., Red Hats, and volunteered at the Youth Center and kids day...

Lindy Winkler and "Boot Scootn Croaker" Take the Government Frog Jump

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras County Government Frog Jump Hopped into the record books on May 7th with the Assessors Office taking the win and going 1-2 this year. The Government Jump is a sanctioned jump and the winner is automatically qualified for the Frog Jump Finals this Sunday. Lindy Winkler took top honors Jockeying "Boot Scootn' Croaker"with a 13'9" jump. Adriane Parris, last years winner slipped a notch with a 11'9" jump jockeying "Toadly Awesome". The Library Hopped Strong with a 11'3" Jump for Marcia Thompson and "Icky Sticky"...

Murphys, CA..To help kick-off the summer tourism season, the Calaveras Visitors Bureau (CVB) hosted a luncheon featuring guest speaker Rick Mears, VP of Guest Services for the San Francisco Giants. Mears, who is entering his 15th season with the Giants (the 2010 and 2012 World Series Champions), discussed the key elements for providing a great customer service experience. He brought 35 years of experience and a World Series Ring to the speech and gave useful examples...

Valley Springs, CA..(Update...The latest from the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office is that the Press conference has been cancelled. We hope that remains the case as with the amount of national media on hand it had the opportunity to be very uncomfortable, very quickly) The parents of Leila Fowler have requested to make a prepared statement to the media and to the residents of Calaveras County. A press conference will be held May 14, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. The location of the conference will be the Valley Springs Sheriff’s Substation, located at 200 Highway 12, Valley Springs, CA...

Fire Update...Fire Reported on Hwy 12 and Burson Road (Contained at 3-5 Acres)

Valley Springs, CA...CHP is reporting a fire on Hwy 12 and Burson Road. More to follow.... Update as of 2:55pm. the fire is about 2 acres of grass at this time with a slow rate of spread. Welcome to fire season. If you have fire photos you would like to share please email them to news@thepinetree.net. More to follow..... Update as of 3:00pm...Tanker 82 is heading inbound to the incident from Columbia... Update as of 3:12pm we just spoke with CAL-FIRE's Lisa Williams and the fire has just been called contained at 3-5 acres and the inbound air assets have been released. Lets be careful out there everyone and great work by crews for getting this one knocked down quickly..

On April 26, 27 and 28th many of our young, local budding thespians took the stage. Snow White and her dwarfs were joined by Queens, witches, maidens, mirrors, forest animals, and many more...

Arrest Made in Leila Fowler Homicide Investigation (Updated)

Valley Springs, Ca... A Press conference was held in Valley Springs at 7:15 pm today. This article has been updated to include full text of Calaveras County Sheriff's comments made this evening. (Valley Springs, CA) Calaveras County Sheriff Gary Kuntz made the below statement tonight during a 7:30 p.m. press conference concerning this investigation. “Today Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested the murderer of eight year old Leila Fowler. At 5:10 p.m. detectives arrested Leila’s 12 year old brother at the Sheriff’s Office’s Valley Springs Substation on the charge of homicide.
