Mark Twain Medical Center Health Fair Recap and Cancer Center Update

Valley Springs, CA...On Satruday morning Mark Twain Medical Center held their Summer Health Fair in Valley. Community Heath industry booths and Mark Twain Medical Center and Family Medical Center staff were on hand for free and low cost health screenings and more. Also there were Mark Twain Cancer Center's Michael Helwig the Registered Dietitian and Director Debbie Peterson. They are striving for the best in integrated cancer care close to home.

San Andreas – Each year illegal and misused fireworks cause serious injuries and damaging wildfires. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is taking a zero tolerance stand against anyone possessing, transporting or using illegal fireworks. The penalties for possessing, transporting or using illegal fireworks ranges from a misdemeanor up to felony charges plus the cost incurred for fire suppression..

Fire Update - Vegetation Fire on Hwy 26 & Farris Drive. Fire Held to 11 Acres and Containment Reached at 4:24pm..

Valley Springs, CA.... Vegatation fire Hwy 26 & Farris Dr approx. 1/4 acre at present - crews are responding now - full wildfire response - please use caution in the area. Update: 3:32pm - approx. 2 acres, 1 structure threatened, CCSO being advised in case of possible evacuation. Update: 3:40pm all assigned aircraft are inbound - ~5 acres now and moving uphill. Update: 3:50 TCU's official word is 5 acres. Update: 3:55 Helicopter 4 is on scene and working the fire. Update: 3:56 CHP has a unit assigned and responding - please use caution in the area. Update: 3:59pm Forward movement of fire has been stopped - additional trucks and loaded tankers being canceled - crews are continuing - this is usually great news. 4:09pm Helicopter is being released. - Please continue to use caution in the area. Great job by all those responding! Please stay out of the way as these crews finish and mop up. Update: 4:45pm PG&E is being notified of damage to one of their poles.

Calaveras Health Department Urges Be Prepared for the Heat

San Andreas, CA....Temperatures are expected to hit the century mark in the foothills this weekend and through early next week. Dr. Dean Kelaita, County Health Officer, urges residents to prevent heat-related illnesses by being aware of the dangers and taking action. Infants, children and the elderly are at higher risk of heat illness. Other persons at higher risk of heat illness have health conditions such as obesity, fever, dehydration, heart disease, poor circulation, or misuse of drugs or Temperatures are expected to hit the century mark in the foothills this weekend and through early next week. Calaveras County Sheriff's Logs for June 26, 2013

San Andreas, CA...The latest activity logs for our local Calaveras County Sheriff's Deputies. The normal calls for disturbances, thefts, a fraudulent money order, etc. There were some animal related calls for two dogs left in a truck and also an altercation between a dog and a goat. Apparently it is an ongoing relationship problem between them....

The 2013 CCWD Rate Road Show. Copper Last Night...Rancho Tonight

Copperopolis, CA...The CCWD Rate Increase Road Show rolled into Copperopolis last night. It was another contentious meeting with the Rock Creek Park Community Room filled with ratepayers and citizens concerned with the proposed rate increases from the district. Even though the mood in the room was anything but sanguine it was however calmer than the donnybrook that was the Arnold town hall. The race will probably go down to the wire to see if the ratepayer groups can get enough votes to stop the increases from going into place....

Local Grandmother is a semi-finalist in Pillsbury Bake-Off

Lockeford, CA...Charmie Allison of Lockeford has been entering recipes in the one million dollar Pillsbury Bake-Off contest for the past 20 years. She has finally been selected as a semi-finalist in the appetizer and sweets category and she couldn’t be happier. Her chocolate and peanut butter squares recipe, using Pillsbury Crescent Rolls and only 6 other ingredients, is getting lots of votes and some wonderful comments but she needs your help! Pillsbury has opened up the contest for public voting...
