4-H Wants You - To Make The Best Better!

Posted by: Lea_Marie_C_Paar on 07/02/2014 08:59 PM
Calaveras County, Ca...4-H can trace its roots to the early part of last century when County Extension Offices were trying to increase knowledge among local farmers. The County Extension Offices began teaching youth about new and innovative farming practices, hoping their parents would take notice, and they did. Over the years 4-H has evolved to become one of the largest positive youth development programs in the nation. It has grown to offer projects for five to eighteen year olds in pretty much any topic imaginable. Recently Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, and Tuolumne counties pooled their resources to form the state’s first Multi-County Partnership, the UC Cooperative Extension Central Sierra. Together we are working to improve the lives of young people throughout the region, while keeping our county 4-H identities. The Central Sierra 4-H program is looking to build capacity by increasing the amount and types of projects offered to youth in our four counties. Do you have a passion you want to share? Do you love kids? We provide training and support so you wouldn’t be doing this in the dark. We are adding projects in all four counties. Possible projects may include robotics, cultural arts, soap making, entomology, ballroom dancing, and so much more....

Vincent Is Lost! Have You Seen Him?

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/29/2014 06:50 PM
Valley Springs, CA...Vincent, is lost. He was frightened of the fireworks last night and escaped our fenced backyard. By the time I heard the fireworks, he was gone. We live near Hartvickson and McDaniel Lane. Vincent was last seen early this morning past Cane Lane and Hartvickson. There is quite a bit of territory between these areas. If found, people should call Mark at (209) 993-5816 or Tammy at (209) 753-8780

Thank You For Dustin Prater

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/28/2014 08:56 AM
Valley Springs, CA...Our family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the thoughtful communities of Valley Springs, Linden, and Stockton, Glory Bound Fellowship, Jenny Lind School, Calaveras Consolidated Fire Department- Jenny Lind Station, The Flower Shoppe, Valley Springs Signs & Tees, and the countless businesses and individuals who selflessly donated their time and services in honor of our son, Dustin Prater....

Editor's Note: We had this photo of Dustin in our archives that his mother submitted in 2009 when he was attending Toyon Middle School. We thought it appropriate to run it one last time. Her caption from 2009. "I just wanted to send you this awesome picture of my son Dustin Prater who went deer hunting while it was snowing on horseback. He is a true hunter that has been going since he was three. He goes to Toyon Middle School and we live in Valley Springs. That's one great thing about living in our county is being so close to the beautiful mountains." Dustin passed away in a traffic accident on May 24th, 2014
