Milton, CA...Firefighters are responding to a vegetation fire on Milton Road about 4 miles from Hwy 4. This is a full wildland response. Update..units made quick work of this fire. Also assisting were civilians who were fire ready...

Junior Miss Calaveras Crowned, Jr. Frog Jump Winners Announced |

Angels Camp, CA...The Junior Miss Calaveras Pageant and Junior Frog Jump were held concurrently on Saturday, May 9 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Altaville Melones Fire District station in Angels Camp. The Junior Miss Calaveras Queen and her court are as follows: QUEEN: Devyn Pryor, 12 of Avery Middle School, 1st Princess: Alexis Watt, 13 of Mark Twain Elementary, 2nd Princess: Mallory Wainwright, 14 of Mark Twain Elementary. Devin is a 7th grader at Avery Middle School, Alexis and Mallory attend Mark Twain. This year, many activities were added to the scoring criteria. The following girls were given awards for these new activities:Sponsorship: Alexis, Most ticket sales: Brooke Nord, Best Interview: Devyn, Highest Score on Written Test: Devyn, Best Speech: Devyn. The Junior Miss Calaveras competition was open to all county 7th and 8th grade girls. The queen and her court will appear in the upcoming Frog Jump parade on Thursday, May 14 and the Jr. Queen will be presented at the Calaveras county fair....

It has since become a “movement”, spanning 30 cities, now making its way to the Sierra Foothills via Petroglyphe Gallery. The trio is composed of guitar, trumpet and alto saxophone, plus woodwinds. These innovative young men have been globetrotting their fresh sound to an international audience. Their collaboration began as roommates studying at the Frost School of Music in Miami and continues today...

Angels Camp, CA...Calaveras Transit to provide shuttle service. Save the cost of parking your car at the County fair this year. Let Calaveras Transit shuttle you right to the gate at Frogtown. Shuttle service to the fair from Angels Camp locations and back will be available at convenient times on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. New this year on Saturday is an Express Fair Shuttle with stops at La Contenta Plaza, Umpqua Bank in Valley Springs, and the Government Center in San Andreas. Express buses will run six times going to the fair and six times coming back. The detailed shuttle schedule is posted on the Calaveras Transit website: www.calaverastransit.com.

Valley Springs, CA...Erica Seawell,45, passed away suddenly on April 30, 2015 at Modesto Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her husband David and her four sons, Dusty, Tyler, Conor and Michael, her mother Shelly Morgan, father John Arnerich, sister Deidre Roniger, grandmother Shirley Arnerich and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Erica graduated from Bret Harte high school in 1987 and attended California State University at Long Beach. During her years at Bret Harte, she won Miss Calaveras and was an accomplished athlete in volleyball, basketball, softball and track. As a standout basketball player, Erica won multiple MVP awards, was named to the Sac-Joaquin All Tourney Team, and held the school record in points scored. As an adult, she was active in her community, serving as the Board Member for Foothills Little League, President of the Junior Redskins Football Program and coaching soccer...

Robbery Of 10 Year Old In Valley Springs |

| Valley Springs, CA...On 04-29-15 at 1700 hours, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 6900 block of Stabulis Road in Valley Springs, to investigate a report of an assault and robbery of a 10 year old boy. The victim was riding his bike with some friends near a pond on Stabulis, when the victim rode away from his friends. The victim was riding when he heard a noise come from some bushes, then he noticed a male adult running towards him. The suspect grabbed the bike and assaulted the boy. The victim yelled for help from his nearby friends and the suspect let go of the juvenile and rode off with his bicycle. The victim ran to his friends and telephoned 9-1-1 to report the incident. The victim did not sustain any visible injuries as a result from the assault... |
