Valley Springs, C.A….The suspect in a Valley Springs arson case allegedly told the homeowner of the home he burned to the ground last week that he did it as a “favor," according to Sgt. Dave Seawell of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department....

Valley Springs, CA...The East Bay Municipal Utility District is launching a Mussel prevention program on Lake Camanche and Pardee. The following is from EBMUD on the program which starts on Friday. Quagga and Zebra Mussels are invasive, non-native mollusks that have been discovered in some California waters recently. State officials say the spread of the mussels threatens water delivery systems, hydroelectric facilities, agriculture, recreational boating and fishing, and the environment in general.... |

San Andreas, CA...The Public Health Department, in consultation with Calaveras Unified School District (CUSD) officials, is investigating an unusually high number of ill students at Mokelumne Hill and Rail Road Flat Elementary Schools. The reported symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea are consistent with a gastrointestinal virus. Late last week, upon receiving a report from the school district nurse, public health officials immediately began investigating why a large number of students were ill. “We found symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea, which are consistent with a viral gastrointestinal illness,” said Dean Kelaita, M.D., Calaveras County Health Officer. “The virus causes sudden onset of vomiting and stomach cramps,” added Kelaita. “Symptoms may include diarrhea...

Mokelumne Hill, CA...We were passed along some news that cuts are ahead for local Ambulance service from American Legion due to hard economic times. The Mokelumne Hill Unit will be phased out completely and the hours of an additional Unit will be curtailed. The call volumes have been lower than expected so they feel cuts are necessary...
