San Jose Man Arrested For Felony DUI In Hwy 12 Collision

San Andreas, CA....A San Jose man was traveling westbound on SR-12 east of Double Springs Road at an unknown rate of speed. Due to his intoxication he swerved onto the westbound shoulder, lost control of his Pontiac and it overturned. He was arrested for suspicion of Felony DUI, and both he and his passenger were transported to Mark Twain Medical Center and then life flighted to Modesto for treatment of their injuries.

Charlene Adell DeRivi, May 6, 1940 - April 8, 2017

Valley Springs, CA...Charlene Adell DeRivi, Born in Phoenix Arizona May 6, 1940 to Sterling and Lorene White. Charlene passed away April 8, 2017 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Stockton, CA. at the age of 76 years. Her family moved to Bakersfield where she spent most of early life. While working as the Manager of Fred Harvey's Restaurant, she met her husband, Richard DeRivi. They were married for 46 years. Charlene, along with her husband loved to fish, camp and travel. She formed a group of sibling women 'On the road again gang' and traveled all over the United States using the back roads to see real life, missing only two states. She loved children and often took them camping, related or not, it did not matter. As a result, they all called her Aunt Charlene and still do to this day. She also moved around the States as her husband was transferred and traveled with him overseas.

San Andreas, CA...The 49th Annual Calaveras County Spelling Bee saw some intense spelling competition on Thursday, April 6 at the Calaveras River Academy/Mountain Oaks gymnasium. Fifty students competed from the following schools: Avery Middle School, Bret Harte High School, Calaveras High School, Christian Family Learning Center, Copperopolis Elementary, Jenny Lind Elementary, Mark Twain Elementary, San Andreas Elementary, Toyon Middle School, Valley Springs Elementary

Almost 1000 Butane Containers Recovered In More Illegal Dumping Near Calaveras High School

San Andreas, CA...On 4-5-17 Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office received a tip connecting the remnants of a BHO lab discovered last week at Calaveras High School, to an additional dump site at 238 East Saint Charles Street.
Deputies responded to this location and discovered a significant dump site. Deputies along with members of Code Compliance and Environment Health worked to coordinate the cleanup. A Hazardous waste cleanup company was called to assist and remove the debris.

Valley Springs, CA...CHP is reporting a tow truck vs the Good Friends Restaurant in Valley Springs. Not sure what set the tow truck off. Maybe the "Tow Trucks On Cables Only" sign or "Wreckers Only, No Flatbeds Allowed". The truck was reportedly overheard saying "But I'm a "Service Truck"! The discussion elevated when the restaurant replied that jumping a dead battery does not qualify as service. Not sure but please use caution in the area...

The COA is tasked with helping the county provide an environment conducive to the well-being of older adults and interested seniors for Commission vacancies and interested seniors are invited to attend.

San Andreas, CA...I have been repeatedly asked about Marijuana and the safety of Calaveras citizens. Last year the voters of California chose to decriminalize possession of small amounts of marijuana and to allow the small scale cultivation of marijuana. In addition, marijuana cultivation has now become a land use issue based upon decisions by the voters and the Board of Supervisors. In 2016, the previous Calaveras County Board of Supervisors chose to allow large commercial cultivation inside of residential areas of Calaveras County through an “Urgency Ordinance.”

Longtime Calaveras Resident Rex Alton Berry Died Thursday, March 23, 2017. He was 61.

San Andreas, CA...Rex Alton Berry was born in Palo Alto, California, on 1 November 1955, Mr. Berry lived with his family in Fremont. As a young teenager, he suffered a serious life threatening illness and miraculously recovered. Thereafter, he spent a summer in Anchorage, Alaska with his Uncle, Allen Berry, where had the adventure of a lifetime. His Boy Scout skills were put to good use. He and his family moved to Valley Springs (Paloma) in 1969. In the mid-1970s, he moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he spent his time with his Uncles Frank and Jim Fitzgerald. He married and his only child, Rex Jr. was born. Mr. Berry had several jobs including delivery driver for a major distributor of soft drinks, collector of bee pollen for health products, metal refinisher, metal plater, and was a truck driver for a short time.

Burson Man Strikes & Bites Girlfriend. Arrested On Torture, Battery & Domestic Violence Charges

Burson, CA...On 02/22/17 at approx. 10:30 PM, The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 5700 block of Heron Lane in Burson for a domestic violence altercation. Sheriff Deputies learned that 34-year-old suspect Nolan Alan Hilyard and his 53 year old live in girlfriend were involved in a physical confrontation. Nolan Hilyard allegedly repeatedly struck and bit the victim on the head and face causing severe injuries. The victim was able to flee the residence to seek help. Emergency personnel responded and treated the victim. The victim was transported to an area hospital for the severity of her injuries. Sheriff Deputies attempted to make contact with Nolan Hilyard at the time of the report with negative results.
