Arrest After Theft At CCWD Yard, Pursuit & Suspect Detained By Witness

Valley Springs, CA...On 02-13-17 at about 0710 hours, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Deputies investigated a burglary to the CCWD Water Treatment Plant on Campbell Road in Valley Springs. Deputies learned that multiple tools were taken including a 2008 Ford 350 truck with a utility bed. At 1316 hours, Deputies located the vehicle matching the description traveling on Quail Oaks Road and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle initially complied and stopped. However, as Deputies attempted to make contact with driver, he pulled away. The suspect additionally stopped two more times in which he waited for the deputies to exit their patrol vehicle before he continued to evade the deputies. The suspect led deputies on a 20 mile vehicle pursuit that lasted 30 minutes through highways and county roads. The vehicle pursuit was turned over to the California Highway Patrol at Highway 12 and Haskell Road in Wallace. The suspect was pursued for over an hour before CHP terminated the pursuit for safety reasons.

Dr. Smith joined the MTMC Leadership Team in November with responsibilities that include overseeing operations of the hospital’s five Rural Health Clinics and three Specialty Care Centers. Clinic administration is just one of Dr. Smith’s multiple roles as CMO. He is also the senior physician executive working with the administrative team and medical staff to recruit and retain doctors, contract for specialty services, oversee several departments including Physical Therapy, X-Ray, Laboratory – and more. The clinics began serving local communities over 20 years ago and have been a major focus in Dr. Smith’s first months at MTMC.

Three Year Old Swept Away & Drowns In Calaveras River

Valley Springs, CA....On 2/10/17 at approx. 10:59 AM, Calaveras Sheriff’s Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding a 3-year-old female that had fallen into the Calaveras River. According to statements, the 3-year-old, her mother, and an infant male, were walking on a dirt trail in the area of the River of Skulls Nature Trail, approx. ¼-mile below Hogan Damn, when the 3-year-old fell down an embankment into the river and was swept away.

CCWD Greater Valley Springs Area Flushing Update: Week of February 6

Valley Springs, CA...The Calaveras County Water District will be flushing its entire water distribution system in the greater Valley Springs area through the end of March. These operations may impact CCWD customers in Rancho Calaveras, Jenny Lind, La Contenta and Gold Creek. Due to the large size of the system, CCWD crews will be systematically working their way through portions of the service area over a period of about 10 weeks. Flushing will take place on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Jenny Lind, CA...On 01/9/17 The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 9000 block of Opal Lane in Jenny Lind for a missing person’s report. Family members reported that Julio Gonzales (39) from Jenny Lind left his residence for work at approx. 6:00 AM on 01/09/17, driving an All-Terrain Vehicle. The family began searching for him when he did not return home at 4:30 PM. Calaveras County Search and Rescue was activated and searched the area along the Calaveras River, which runs through the property. Searchers located Mr. Gonzales’ ATV in the river, but were unable to locate him. The search efforts were continually hampered by the wet weather and flooding in the area.
