Traffic Signal Work State Route 26 (SR-26) from Gee Lane to County View Drive |

Calaveras County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform one-way traffic control on eastbound and westbound State Route 26 (SR-26) from Gee Lane to County View Drive for traffic signal work. Work will begin Sunday, June 25, 2017, to Friday, June 30, 2017, from 7:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. Motorists should expect 10-minute delays. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible.

Margaret J. Soares Passes Away At 89 |

Valley Springs, CA....Margaret J. Soares, a resident of Valley Springs for 16 years died on April 19, 2017 at the age of 89. A retiree of American Airlines. She is survived by daughters Gail Ventress of Valley Springs, Bonnie Ventress of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Son Daniel Ventress of Cobb, CA. Seven Grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Soares and 4 day old great grandson Ryder Martinez.

Assault with Deadly Weapon Charge For Burson Man |

Burson, CA...On 06/20/17 at about 3:15 PM, The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 3300 block of Davis Road for a report of a 33-year-old victim allegedly being punched and kicked by 46-year-old suspect Dale William Wichman II of Burson. It was reported that Wichman became angry at the victim and repeatedly punched and kicked the victim. The victim attempted to leave the property when Wichman allegedly armed himself with a handgun and hit the victim with the firearm while he was trying to drive away. The victim also reported that Dale Wichman fired a single shot from his firearm into the rear of his vehicle as he exited the driveway. The victim sustained injuries to his face and upper body as a result of the physical confrontation. His medical condition is unknown at this time.

Valley Springs, CA...On June 19, 2017, at approximately 2015 hours, Party #2 (Franz) was driving Vehicle #2 (Subaru), traveling westbound on SR-12, approaching Sonny Lane. Party #1 (Baca) was driving Vehicle #1 (Pontiac), at approximately 45 mph, following a short distance behind Vehicle #2. Party #3 (Holtz) was driving Vehicle #3 (Dodge), traveling eastbound on SR-12, at approximately 45 mph, approaching Sonny Lane.

San Andreas, CA...On 06/17/2017 at approximately 1610 hours, Katrina Williams was driving her Jeep westbound on SR-12, west of SR-49. Janet Ballou was driving her Ford truck eastbound on SR-12, approaching the Jeep. For an undetermined reason, Williams turned her jeep to the left into the path of Ballou. Ballou had no time to react and the vehicles collided head on.
