Copperopolis, CA...In 1895 James A. Tower was only 16 years old when, using barbed wire fencing, he strung the first telephone line for what was to become The Calaveras Telephone Company. As demands for the telephone service increased, the young Mr. Tower found it necessary to establish a central office in the small community of Felix near the town of Copperopolis. Then in 1899, Mr. Tower, now 20 years old, negotiated an agreement with Sunset Telephone Company that would connect his subscribers by telephone with the rest of the world.

Moderate Injuries in Yesterday's Motorcycle Collision in Valley Springs Area |

Valley Springs, CA...On March 12, 2018, at approximately 1:50 PM, Mr. Wallace was driving a 2005 GMC Sierra northbound on Cane Lane and came to a stop at the intersection with Rippon Road. Mr. Barron was driving a 2012 Yamaha R-1 motorcycle westbound on Rippon Road at approximately 35 miles per hour. Mr. Wallace did not observe the Yamaha approaching the intersection and drove into the path of the motorcycle. The front of the GMC collided with the left side of the Yamaha. As a result of the collision, Mr. Barron sustained moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to Lodi Memorial Hospital. Both parties were properly utilizing their safety equipment.

Valley Springs, CA...Kenneth Arnold Chapman, 66 of Valley Springs, California passed away March 11, 2018 in San Andreas, CA after battling cancer, born August 14, 1951 in Kirkland, Washington. Ken was originally from Washington State graduating from Tolt High School in 1970. Forever the adventurer, Ken spent his life traveling the world seeking inspiration from Canada to Turkey, Bosnia, Germany to Greece where he picked olives to get enough money to continue on with his European travels.
