54 Year old Glencoe Woman Dies in ATV Collision

Glencoe, CA...A 54 year old Glencoe woman was driving a Can-Am "side by side" off highway utility vehicle at a private residence on Three Cent Flat Rd. She was traveling northbound on an unimproved dirt pathway. For an unknown reason she made an unsafe turn to the right, causing the Can-Am to overturn. As the Can-Am overturned, she was partially ejected and the vehicle came to rest on top of her. As a result, she sustained fatal injuries.

Inmate Death in Tuolumne County Jail

Sonora, CA...On Tuesday just after 1pm, 60-year-old Michael Hyde of Sonora was found deceased from a self-inflicted injury inside the Tuolumne County Jail. Upon discovering Michael, deputies rendered lifesaving measures without success. The investigation is being handled by the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Investigations Division and no foul play is suspected.

Donald Joseph Parr 1945 - 2020

Murphys, CA...Donald Joseph Parr, loving Husband, Father, Grand father and Great Grandfather passed away February 28, 2020 in Murphys. Donald was born to Jacob and Emma Parr in Oakland, Califorina on July 18, 1945. He moved to Calaveras County at two years old. Donny graduated from Bret Harte with the class of 1964. He then joined the Army in 1968 where he served in Vietnam. When he came home from Vietnam, he worked for PG&E as a lineman. Donny then went into business for himself, creating Don Parr Roofing, working for fifty four years and retired in 2014. Donny loved sports, most especially baseball(Oakland A's) and football. He was known to enjoy fishing our local areas but also worldwide excursions. One could say he loved being on a boat with one on the line the most in life.

Houston, TX...The following is a statement from Administrator Jim Bridenstine on the passing of NASA legend Katherine Johnson, who worked for the agency from 1953 to 1986. “NASA is deeply saddened by the loss of a leader from our pioneering days, and we send our deepest condolences to the family of Katherine Johnson. Ms. Johnson helped our nation enlarge the frontiers of space even as she made huge strides that also opened doors for women and people of color in the universal human quest to explore space. Her dedication and skill as a mathematician helped put humans on the moon and before that made it possible for our astronauts to take the first steps in space that we now follow on a journey to Mars. Her Presidential Medal of Freedom was a well-deserved recognition.

Richard Talmadge Underhill 1935 – 2020

Camp Connell, CA...Richard Talmadge Underhill Feb. 5, 1935 – Feb. 19, 2020. Longtime Camp Connell resident Richard Underhill, 85, died Feb. 19 at a Modesto hospital following heart surgery and pneumonia. An Oklahoma native, Dick grew up in the Bay Area, attended Mission High School, and worked as a professional mover for 32 years. He met the love of his life, Bertha Stevens, in 1984 at Pac Bell, where she worked. They married in 1985 and Dick soon introduced her to Ebbetts Pass, where he and friends often hunted. Bertha, too, fell in love with the area, and in 1988 they moved there full-time.

Angels Camp, CA...On 02/15/2020, at approximately 1030 hours, Mr. Zhang was driving his Lexus eastbound on SR-4, east of Pool Station Road, traveling at an unknown speed. Mr. Heffington was driving his Toyota westbound on SR-4, east of Pool Station Road at an unknown speed. As the two vehicles approached the same curve in the roadway, Mr. Zhang allowed his Lexus to travel over the double yellow lines and into the opposing traffic lane, directly into the path of the Toyota. The front of the Lexus collided with the front of the Toyota in the westbound traffic lane. The Lexus continued onto the north shoulder and collided with a traffic sign and overturned.

Washington, DC...The Department of Defense announced today the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Freedom's Sentinel. Both soldiers died February 8, 2020 in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan, as a result of wounds sustained while engaged in combat operations. The incident is under investigation.
