Joann Marie Inks 1935 - 2018, Former Calaveras Treasure Tax Collector

Angels Camp, CA...Joann Marie Inks was born on July 24, 1935, at the family farm home on the prairie near Rockham, South Dakota. Her parents were Arthur and Florence (McGinnis) Nielsen. It was a hot harvest day and when Joann was about to arrive, her Dad rushed by car to a neighbor's home to phone the doctor, that neighbor lady then went to the Nielsen home to help out. The doctor was Dr. Potter from Redfield about 20 miles away. Dr. Potter had been the much loved family doctor for the McGinnis family for about 20 years including the birth of Joann's sister, Arlene, and her twin brothers, Rollie and Bob.

Marian Edang Shinko from Walnut Creek Lost Her Life Yesterday in Hwy 108/120 Collision

Jamestown, CA...On Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at approximately 1100 hours, a 2007 Kia Sportage, driven by Marian Shinko, 80 years old, of Walnut Creek, was traveling eastbound on SR 120, east of Tulloch Road. Due to her unsafe speed for the wet roadway surface she was unable to negotiate a curve in the road and lost control of her vehicle. Her vehicle traveled into the center median where it collided with a tree and overturned. The vehicle caught fire and a passing motorist stopped and extricated her from the vehicle. Mrs. Shinko was unresponsive and the motorist started CPR. Mrs. Shinko was pronounced dead on scene by paramedics. She was the solo occupant and impairment is not known at this time, pending autopsy.

Valley Springs, CA...Kenneth Arnold Chapman, 66 of Valley Springs, California passed away March 11, 2018 in San Andreas, CA after battling cancer, born August 14, 1951 in Kirkland, Washington. Ken was originally from Washington State graduating from Tolt High School in 1970. Forever the adventurer, Ken spent his life traveling the world seeking inspiration from Canada to Turkey, Bosnia, Germany to Greece where he picked olives to get enough money to continue on with his European travels.

His scientific works include a collaboration with Roger Penrose on gravitational singularity theorems in the framework of general relativity and the theoretical prediction that black holes emit radiation, often called Hawking radiation. Hawking was the first to set out a theory of cosmology explained by a union of the general theory of relativity and quantum mechanics. He was a vigorous supporter of the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics"

Alpine County Sheriff's Office on Accidental Deaths from Snow Slide Incident at Kirkwood

Kirkwood, CA...On March 4, 2018 at about 6:40 pm the Alpine County Sheriffs Office received a report of two missing persons at the Kirkwood Ski Resort located in Alpine County, California. The persons were described as a 50-year-old woman and her seven-year-old son. Responders to the search included Alpine County Sheriffs Office, Alpine Cou, Search and Rescue, Eastern Alpine Fire, Kirkwood Fire, Kirkwood Ski Patrol and Kirkwood Security.

Amy was an amazing wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, and friend. Her smile would light up a room and her laughter was contagious. Jamestown, CA...On Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at approximately 6:00 pm, Thomas Anthony Bills was driving a Ford F-250 northbound on Stent Cut Off Road at an unknown slow speed. For unknown reasons, as the Ford F-250 entered a slight right curve in the roadway, it continued straight over the southbound lane and onto the west shoulder off of the road. The vehicle continued up the soft dirt embankment until being stopped by a tree causing minor damage to the front bumper....

Arnold, CA...William Robert McClure, AKA Bill: The Man, The Myth, The Legend, of Arnold, CA, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the age of 76. Bill was born to parents Charlie Edward McClure and Dora Bell Stokes on January 24, 1942 in El Monte, CA. He grew up in Stockton CA, moved to Oregon and was known as “Squirrel” for his speed on the football field at Eagle Point High School, where he graduated in the class of 1959. Bill was in the Army and Air Force Reserves, then graduated from Oregon Technical Institute.  He was proud of his career as a land surveyor in Northern California.

Misty D. Levario, 41 from Wilsyville & Paul R. Goltz, 69 from Glencoe Passed Away in Hwy 26 Collision

Glencoe, CA...The sad notifications to family members have been made and the names can now be released. On February 23, 2018, at approximately 1515 hours, CHP San Andreas units responded to a traffic collision on SR-26 at Ponderosa Way in Glencoe. The investigating officers determined that Misty D. Levario was driving her 2013 Hyundai SR-26 eastbound approaching Ponderosa Way. Paul R. Goltz was driving his 1985 Toyota SR-26 westbound approaching Ponderosa Way and for an unknown reason, Misty D. Levario allowed her vehicle to travel into the westbound lane of SR-26 directly into the path of Paul R. Goltz. The front of the two vehicles collided. As a result of the collision, both parties sustained fatal injuries at the scene.
