Murphys, CA...We just made the sad confirmation with the Hovey Winery Tasting Room that local wine industry icon and pioneer Chuck Hovey has passed away. Karla Marie Nichols 1968 - 2019 (Updated)

Vallecito, CA....Karla Marie Nichols, January 11, 1968 July 25, 2019 Karla Marie Nichols peacefully passed away on July 25, 2019 in a Modesto Hospital. She was 51 years old. She is survived by her husband Ronald Nichols of Vallecito, and 2 sons Dustin and Wyatt Lawson. Parents Richard and Nancy Ernst of Libby Montana, 2 sisters Kim (Ron) Gehrmann of Valley Springs, Kelly (Scott) Alred of Fresno, 2 Brothers , Kurt Ernst of Vallecito and Craig Ernst of Libby, Montana. She was a very loving wife and mother. Karla Marie Nichols will be missed but not forgotten. Visitation will be Monday August 5, 2019 from 3 till 6 p.m at Angels Memorial Chapel , Angels Camp. Funeral Services will be Tuesday August 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Angels Memorial Chapel in Angels Camp. Interment will be at Vallecito Cemetery, Vallecito, CA.

Sacramento, CA...Governor Gavin Newsom today issued the following statement regarding the death of CAL FIRE Firefighter Yaroslav Katkov: “On behalf of all Californians, Jennifer and I extend our sincere condolences to CAL FIRE Firefighter Yaroslav Katkov’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time. It’s the work of brave firefighters like Yaroslav that keep our communities safe, and we are deeply grateful for his service.”

Angels Camp, CA...William (Bill) was born in Angels Camp, CA on February 27, 1959 to William and Phyliss Crawford. He was the oldest of the family, later welcoming his brothers Chris and Todd. He graduated from Bret Hart High School in 1977. He attended Modesto Junior College where he earned his Associate’s degree, and subsequently transferred to Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management with an emphasis in Forestry.

Supreme Court Associate Justice John Paul Stevens April 20, 1920 – July 16, 2019

Washington, DC...The Statement from the Supreme Court...Retired Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, John Paul Stevens, died this evening at Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, of complications following a stroke he suffered on July 15. He passed away peacefully with his daughters by his side. He was 99 years old. Justice Stevens was appointed to the Court by President Ford in 1975, and retired in 2010, after serving more than 34 years on the Court. He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Jane Sesemann (Craig) and Susan Roberta Mullen (Kevin), nine grandchildren: Kathryn, Christine, Edward, Susan, Lauren, John, Madison, Hannah, Haley, and 13 great grandchildren. His first wife Elizabeth Jane, his second wife, Maryan Mulholland, his son, John Joseph, and his daughter, Kathryn, preceded him in death.

Washington, DC...Statement of Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr.: On behalf of the Court and retired Justices, I am saddened to report that our colleague Justice John Paul Stevens has passed away. A son of the Midwest heartland and a veteran of World War II, Justice Stevens devoted his long life to public service, including 35 years on the Supreme Court. He brought to our bench an inimitable blend of kindness, humility, wisdom, and independence. His unrelenting commitment to justice has left us a better nation. We extend our deepest condolences to his children Elizabeth and Susan, and to his extended family.

Earlier on her death..."It is with profound sadness that we share the news that Lisa Riggs passed away after a sudden illness. She is survived by her husband Joe, daughter Katelyn, son Zack and grandchildren Edan, Sachar and Joslyn. She also leaves her Ace family as well countless friends and family members." A celebration of life was held for Lisa Sunday, July 7 at 3:30PM – 6:00PM Forest Meadows Golf Club and Café on the Green.

Lois Garman 1953 - 2019. Celebration of Life on July 27th

Arnold, CA...On Thursday, July 4th, 2019, Lois Garman, loving wife and mother of 4 children, passed away peacefully at her home in Arnold, CA after a brave battle with brain cancer. She was 66 years old. Lois was born in Memphis Tennessee on June 7, 1953. She was the oldest of seven children. Her and her family eventually made their way to California where she lived for the rest of her days. Lois worked in the real estate business her entire life. She worked as an accomplished escrow officer for multiple companies. Lois’ last job was working for Placer Title in Arnold.

He was the founder and former chief executive officer of Electronic Data Systems and Perot Systems. He ran an independent presidential campaign in 1992 and a third-party campaign in 1996, establishing the Reform Party in the latter election. Both campaigns were among the strongest presidential showings by a third party or independent candidate in U.S. history.

Arnold, CA...It is with great sadness that we share news of the passing of Richard Wayne Harrison. He died at home after a brief illness with loved ones by his side. Many people know of Wayne through his work as an Environmental Scientist at Calaveras Big Trees State Park, where he worked for over 35 years. He was one of the founders of the CA State Park’s prescribed burn program, and was instrumental in creating a robust fire program at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. He was passionate about using fire in the landscape to bring health to the forest and protect the Big Trees. His leadership and mentoring have guided many to careers in this profession.
