In Loving Memory of John Dennis Dorny 1936~2010

San Andreas, CA....A Memorial Service for Valley Springs resident John Dennis Dorny, formerly of Tracy, is planned for Wednesday November 10th. John Dennis Dorny died November 5, in San Andreas after a short illness. The service will be Wednesday, November 10, at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in San Andreas. Viewing will be at 10:00 am prior to the Service. Born in Salt Lake City Utah, Dennis Dorny was an elementary school teacher in California for 35 years. The family moved to Tracy in 1976 where he was active in local sports with his sons and daughter. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who later became a photographer who was published and won many awards for his photography. Mr. Dorny was an Eagle Scout and was involved in various youth programs throughout his life. ....

Murphys Resident, Denise Marjorie Pratt Garrett died peacefully after a brave battle with leukemia on Friday, October 29, 2010. She was 80. A native of Piedmont, California, Mrs. Garrett was born September 26, 1930 and graduated from Piedmont High in 1948. She was married for 57 years to Gerry Wendell Garrett, who preceded her in death in 2009. ....

Samuel James Wiens, 79, of Murphys, died peacefully on November 1, 2010, following complications of cardiac arrest. He was born to the late Jacob and Mary Wiens, on May 6, 1931, in Dallas, Oregon. Sam was a teacher in San Jose until his retirement in 1990. At that time Sam and his wife, Ruby, moved to Murphys where he has enjoyed being involved in many activities including serving at the Chapel in the Pines; participating in SIRS, Do Wooders, and Links Fellowship. ....

San Andreas, CA...San Andreas resident Betsey Metzger died Friday, Oct. 15, 2010 at Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital in San Andreas. She was 88. Mrs. Metzger was born May 28, 1922, in San Francisco to Ralph and Rachel Hoffman. In 1925, her family moved to Potrerillos, Chile, where her father was a copper mining engineer. After young Betsey Hoffman graduated eighth grade in Chile, her parents sent her to live with relatives to continue her education. She attended University High School in Oakland, and then the University of California, Berkeley, where she joined Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and studied international relations...

She is survived by her husband of 45 years Mike and two sons , Robert (Jennifer) Preston and Levi Preston . Two grand children Brieanna and Colin Preston . A brother Rick Tam and a niece Kari Tam and a nephew Kevin Tam. In 1989 a group of Bret Harte parents met to plan a graduation party for their students . Long time Fremont resident, Esther Margaret Aughinbaugh, died peacefully of natural causes at her home in Lindale, Texas on October 10, 2010 at the age of 94. Mrs. Aughinbaugh was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Aughinbaugh, and her son, Gary R. Aughinbaugh. She is survived by her son, David M. Aughinbaugh of Fremont, Ca. and her daughter, Joyce L. Wisdom of Lindale, Texas. She left behind many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren who all loved her dearly.....

Los Vegas, NV...Actor Tony Curtis passed away this morning from cardiac at his home in Las Vegas. Tony Curtis (June 3, 1925 – September 29, 2010) was an American film actor. He played a variety of roles, from light comedy, such as the musician on the run from gangsters in Some Like It Hot, to serious dramatic roles, such as an escaped convict in The Defiant Ones, which earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor.
