Big Trees, CA...On Saturday August 21st 2010 Calaveras Big Trees State Park held their annual Family Day. Many people enjoyed the Carriage rides as well as all the displays and the live displays at the Campfire Center. There were booths that included Fly Tying, Reptiles, Miwok Culture, Crafts (First 5 Preschool), Face Painting, Search and Rescue, and Cocked Hat Bowling just to name a few. Family fun day is all about raising awareness about Big Trees and what a great destination it is. Being out on the trail hearing the wind whistle though the pine needles and taking a deep breath smelling that fresh air makes you want to find a near by house and never leave...

Washington, DC...Butte Community Bank, Chico, California, and Pacific State Bank, Stockton, California, were closed today by the California Department of Financial Institutions, which then appointed the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) as receiver for the two banks. To protect depositors, the FDIC entered into purchase and assumption agreements with Rabobank, National Association, El Centro, California, to assume all the deposits and essentially all the assets of the two failed banks, which were not affiliated with one another....

Arnold, CA...Today was D-Day for many of the schools in the County. This year's crop of bright eyed, eager young scholars stormed the hallways as they headed back to school. Freshly scrubbed young faces area ready for another year of school. Several of our districts have been back to school for a couple of weeks already but this week is when we start feeling the drumbeat of the 2010-11 school. The sports schedules have been finalized and the all of the young athletes are ready to take the field in earnest...

Calaveras Big Trees State Park, CA....The Calaveras Big Trees Association will cosponsor the 9th Annual Art Show and Sale presented by Arts of Bear Valley which is displayed in Jack Knight Memorial Hall in the state park opening on August 19 and closing September 6. Hours are 10 am to 4 pm daily. An artist will be present during open hours to answer questions. A wine reception will be held on Sunday, September 5 from 1 to 4 pm giving visitors an opportunity to meet the artists and discuss their works......
