Copperopolis, CA...On Monday night Candidates Season kicked into high gear as the Calaveras County Taxpayers Association held their first Candidates Night. We will be posting video clips of portions of the night. The first one below if from the assembled candidates for the State Assembly Race. The clip below runs about 24 minutes and covers several questions and their closing statements. Separately we will post clips from the District Attorney Race and also the Supervisor Contests

Sierra Nevada Logging Museum Now Open!

Arnold, CA...The Sierra Nevada Logging Museum on Dunbar Road in White Pines (down Blagen Road from Arnold) is now open and enthusiastically receiving visitors. We have a number of new exhibits, including a wonderful collection of prints that we just received from Jerry and Ramona Sachs of Arnold. The prints were framed and matted through the generosity. of the Arnold Lions. Some of the photos, especially the very large ones, are of the ....

Arnold, CA....Arnold resident, Jenny Nielsen, was called home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on the afternoon of April 15th, 2012 while in Doctor's Hospital in Modesto, CA. She was born on April 1, 1958 in Berkely, CA and grew up in San Francisco. She was the daughter of Shelby R. King and Margaret S. King, both native San Franciscans. She attended Katherine Delmar Burke Girls School as did her Mother and Grandmother....

Central Sierra/ Highway 4 Fishing Report for April 18, 2012

Welcome to our first of 2012 fishing report. Fishing season will open April 28th for the rivers and streams. With such a weak winter this should be a dynamite fishing season. Our area will be planted the week of 4/22 by the DFG. Listed plants are The North Fork of the Stanislaus, Beaver Creek, White Pines Lake, and Angels Creek located in Angels Camp. Camping for the opener will be limited to mainly dispersed camping. You must still obtain a fire permit for your campsite. No word yet if Big Trees State Park will be open for camping for the opening weekend.....

Arnold Lions to Host Community Blood Drive

Arnold, CA...A community blood drive, hosted by the Arnold Lions Club, will be held in Arnold at Independence Hall on Blagen Road from 1:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Tues., April 24. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred. To make an appointment, call Kate Riddle at Delta Blood Bank (209-598-8064). For further information, please call Lee Cunningham at 209-795-0323. Donors should be in good general health, at least 17 years of age and weigh a minimum of 110 lbs.

Letter to the Editor on Speeds on Arnold Roads

Arnold, Ca...At our last Supervisor's meeting on April 10th, and after literally months of efforts by the County Public Works Department after citizen complaints, the Board Approved a resolution to place speed limit signs on Camanche Drive in Meadowmont. The legal speed limit by vehicle code is 25 mph, but other than a sign placed on Country Club just off of Hwy 4, there were no speed signs through the balance of Country CLub, El Dorado through to Rawhide, Rawhide at all, Camanche at all and none on Mustang....

Arnold, CA...Calaveras Big Trees State Park -- From bears to butterflies, big trees to bird songs and native plant biology, the Calaveras Big Trees Association offers a fascinating series of five free seminars this year starting in May. All Seminars will be held in Jack Knight Hall at Calaveras Big Trees State Park
from 10:00 am-12 noon. Admission to the Park is $8 per car. The seminars are free and open to the public. Pack a lunch, bring the family and plan on spending the day among the Giant Sequoias. Arnold, CA...“Helicopter Harry and the Copter Kids Whirlybird Adventures.” This book began 17 years ago when I was training to be a helicopter pilot. I originally wrote the story for children 8 and up as a screenplay about the evolution of the helicopter told in a fun animated way with an emphasis on Leonardo da Vinci and his helicopter with the story eventually morphing into today’s book...
