Murphys, CA..To help kick-off the summer tourism season, the Calaveras Visitors Bureau (CVB) hosted a luncheon featuring guest speaker Rick Mears, VP of Guest Services for the San Francisco Giants. Mears, who is entering his 15th season with the Giants (the 2010 and 2012 World Series Champions), discussed the key elements for providing a great customer service experience. He brought 35 years of experience and a World Series Ring to the speech and gave useful examples...

Angels Camp, CA...The Children's Repertory Theatre put on a great full length production of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the Bret Harte Theatre. On April 26, 27 and 28th many of our young, local budding thespians took the stage. Snow White and her dwarfs were joined by Queens, witches, maidens, mirrors, forest animals, and many more...

San Andreas, CA....Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) announces that they have recruited Dr. Curtis Allen, as the new Medical Operational Director of the MTMC Family Medical Centers (FMCs), where he will practice within the Mark Twain Family FMCs. “Dr. Allen is an experienced Family Medicine Doctor with many years in Clinic Management,” commented Craig Marks, Hospital President. “His strong leadership skills are a perfect fit for what we need in our FMC’s to better serve our greater community. Dr. Allen most recently was the Chief Physician and Surgeon for the California Department of corrections. Prior to that Dr. Allen practiced in the private care setting, and has served as a Medical Director in various Home Health Agencies and Convalescent Hospitals. In 1998 Dr. Allen led the team to implement one of the first Electronic Medical Record Systems, while serving as a Captain in the United States Air Force where he practiced Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.”
Over $53,000 Raised at Calaveras County 2013 Relay For Life!!

Angels Camp, CA....The 2013 Calaveras County Relay for Life is in the books. Over the 24 hour period, Relayers walked over 1,500 miles! (They kept track of this by having Relayers pick up a paperclip after each lap walked and counting the papers clips!) As of close of Relay on Sunday, April 28th at 9:00 a.m. – over $53,000 has been raised!
TCU 2013 Fire Season Begins With A New CAL-FIRE Unit Chief

San Andreas –With this year’s dry conditions the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit (TCU) transitioned into fire season on May 1st, much earlier than normal. CAL FIRE’s Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit incorporates the State Responsibility Areas (SRA) in Tuolumne County, Calaveras County, Eastern Stanislaus County and Eastern San Joaquin County. The 2013 fire season also comes with new leadership. On May 1, 2013, Josh White was appointed to the TCU Unit Chief position. Former TCU Unit Chief, Brian Kirk, retired in March 2013. Chief White began his career in 1988 as a Firefighter I. Since then he has worked a variety of assignments including State and County fire stations, Conservation Camps, Fire Prevention, Civil Cost Recovery, Law Enforcement, Safety, Research and Development as well as served on various working groups and cadres. Chief White has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice...
