Brummund Tree To Be Replaced and Rededicated April 18 At White Pines Park.

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/17/2014 03:49 PM
Arnold, CA....(Update....Murphys Nursery has graciously donated a replacement tree and a re dedication ceremony will be held tomorrow afternoon. The public is invited to arrive around 2pm and some Sacramento TV Stations are expected to arrive about 2:30pm) Our earlier story....White Pines Park Committee's Ginny Kafka was cleaning and checking on the restrooms last weekend and and noticed something very wrong. The Dogwood tree that had been planted in honor of fallen Marine Lance Cpl. Gavin R. Brummund had been torn out and thrown on the roof. Everytime she has cleaned the restrooms she has watered the young tree and watched it grow. Lance Cpl. Gavin R. Brummund was killed on June 10th, 2010 by a remotely detonated roadside bomb in Afghanistan. All of Calaveras County mourned his loss and for anyone who was a resident or in the community during the week after his death will remember like it was yesterday the thousands who lined the roads to honor his family and him as they returned to the county....

Pictured above is the uprooted tree on the roof of the restroom building at the park, L Cpl. Gavin Brummund, Son of Debbie Morris and Gregg Brummund, who was raised in Arnold CA and graduated from Bret Harte High School in 2006. The above image was taken by AP photographer David Guttenfelder of Gavin during a firefight with the Taliban in the battle for Marja in Afghanistan. This photo made numerous appearances in the national press. Below that is a photo of Gavin that was displayed at his service at Frogtown.

Arnold, CA ... More than 100 people filled "The Hub" and spilled out onto the deck to hear a presentation from Dan Cross Development, the company hired by Dollar General Store to site, plan and build a 9100 square foot building in Arnold, CA. The building site, a thickly forested, commercially zoned lot is on the south side of highway 4 east of the intersection with Lilac Drive. The developer said that the site is currently under contract to purchase. He also said that CalTrans ingress and egress traffic issues had been resolved. Revamped architectural elevations and site plan were presented. The plans are a departure from the recognizable standard Dollar General Stores. The developer said, "The goals is to be recognizable as a Dollar General Store, to be affordable to develop and to be acceptable to the residents. Calaveras Animal Shelter Has Your Friends Waiting

Posted by: Andy_Johnson on 04/16/2014 03:08 PM
Calaveras County, CA ... The Calaveras Humane Society is promoting has several canine guests at the shelter that would love to have new homes.

Hercules, a 2-3 year old, white and tan male Bulldog/Pit could be just what you need. He was mellow on all physical testing, will chase a ball but really prefers to be with his person, especially if you give good tummy rubs! He pulls like a tank on the leash so could use some training. He is looking for a home where he could be an only child and someplace with no cats or livestock. Beware of big slobbery kisses. Hercules weighs 63 pounds, is Heartworm negative, up on all shots but rabies and will need to be neutered before he can take up permanent occupancy of your heart and home.
Please use Hercules’ intake # A036973 when making inquiries at the shelter.
