Calaveras County, CA...According to Earth911.com, the EPA estimates that 24% of the U.S. municipal solid waste is composed of food remnants and yard trimmings. If we all did our part to compost instead of throwing these materials in the trash, a large portion of everyday waste could be recovered for reuse. And that’s good for all of us! Here’s a few things you may not have considered for your composting efforts.

Arnold, CA... On August 31st, the Saturday of Labor Day, we are holding our 18th Annual Logging Jamboree. Amateur instruction and competition starts at 9:00 AM and the professionals will begin about noon. Great food, games, raffle, silent auction, we hope a run of our Shay on its short track, tours, and much more. Great day of fun and for only $5.00 per person.

Arnold, CA...CHP is reporting a black cow loose on Moran Road between Ponderosa and Love Creek. Thankfully it is not one of the infamous Calaveras County Loose Cows. Much less troublesome...

Arnold, CA...Devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Marilyn Kay Bolei passed on Thursday, August 22nd after her long battle with pancreatic cancer. Marilyn is survived by her husband of 54 years France Bolei, hers son's Thomas and Ronald, her grandsons Andrew, Grant, Benjamin, and Devon, and her brothers Jeff, Dale, and Bruce Tozier. Marilyn was born in August of 1936 in San Francisco, California to the parents of Ronald and Ruth Tozier. Marilyn's parents pushed her across the Golden Gate Bridge in a stroller the day it opened when she was just a few months old. Marilyn also performed as a dancer at the 1939 World's Fair in San Francisco when she was only three years old. Marilyn graduated from San Francisco's Washington High School in 1954, and she married France Alfred Bolei on October 31st, 1959 in Santa Cruz California...

Sonora, CA....In a story we don't want to report but know it's news. It seems the large cache of weapons ditched in Arnold and White Pines may have been looted or stolen from an evacuated home or homes. Everything the last 10 days or so ends up having a Rim Fire connection. We struck up a conversation with two police officers from out of the area and thanked them for being here and asked if there had been any reports of looting. We expected to hear maybe a few scattered references etc but what they said something different. They said that not only had looting been a problem but that the weapons dumped in Arnold probably came from a home or homes that had been evacuated...
Arnold, CA...We just spoke with Calaveras County Sheriff PIO Sgt. Chris Hewitt on the stolen vehicle case and pursuit of suspects in Arnold yesterday afternoon. The vehicle was ditched on the dirt road behind the Logging Museum. Multiple agencies were involved what made it a bit more chaotic is there may have actually been two chases. One for the actual suspects in the stolen vehicle and the second chasing the owner of the stolen vehicle chasing the stolen vehicle....
