Matinee Today with Brahms & Vivaldi Closes Out Bear Valley Music Festival For 2016 |

Bear Valley, CA...In this final concert of the 2016 Festival Maestro Michael Morgan leads the Bear Valley Symphony in Vivaldi’s double cello concerto with soloists Emil Miland and Lucas Chen plus the haunting Serenade No. 1 by Brahms. Bay Area cellist Lucas Chen received his B.A. from UC Davis, studying Music and Animal Science. He received his Masters Degree and Post-graduate diploma from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, studying with Jennifer Culp

U.S. Forest Service Enacts Fire Restrictions In Moderate Hazard Areas |

Sonora, CA...Due to high fire danger, temporary fire restrictions are in effect in Moderate Hazard Areas on the Stanislaus National Forest (STF) Aug. 5 through the end of the official 2016 fire season. Forest Order 16-2016-3 prohibits campfires, briquette barbecues and smoking outside developed campgrounds, as well as welding and blasting activities in designated Moderate Hazard Areas of the forest – this is in addition to fire restrictions already in place in High Hazard areas.

Tree Mortality Public Town Hall Meeting On August 13th |

Arnold, CA...On Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 11:00 AM a Public Town Hall meeting will be held at the Avery Middle School Auditorium 4545 Moran Road, Avery, CA to discuss the Tree Mortality issue facing Calaveras County, especially the Highway 4 corridor area. Representation from Calaveras County, CalFire, Ebbetts Pass Fire, CCWD, PG&E, CalTrans, US Forest Service, CA Office of Emergency Services and Sierra Pacific Industries will be in attendance to address and answer questions provided by the public in a question and answer format.

Quorum Health Consulting Contract Decision Pushed Back At MTHCD Board Meeting |

San Andreas, CA...The biggest item on yesterday's Mark Twain Health Care District Board meeting was pushed back until the August 24th meeting. There may need to be some state specific contract adjustments. The agenda item was: "Consider approval of an agreement with Quorum Health Resources LLC for a financial, operational and strategic assessment of hospital operations to determine the District’s ability to sustain itself as an independent hospital and identify alternatives if independence is not an option"

Search Continues On For Rosalyn Saxsenmeier |

Bear Valley, CA...Update on the search for Thursday 8/4/16: On going investigation indicates Rosalyn Saxsenmeier is an avid hiker. As a result, the search area has expanded into Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties. Search Teams are following up on clues and re-searching many areas. Currently the Air National Guard is on scene with a Lakota Helicopter and are performing day and night searches with a Forward Looking Infrared camera. Additional resources have been requested and over 150 ground searchers are expected by Saturday...

Arnold, CA...Leigh Robinson was born in Inglewood, California to Muriel and Dario Robinson, the third of their four children. Leigh’s father, Dario, loved journalism and had worked for several newspapers in southern California. In 1949, he purchased a small weekly newspaper called the Carmen Headlight, Alfalfa County’s Oldest Newspaper, and moved his family to Carmen, Oklahoma, population 425. The venture was not entirely successful, however, and in 1951, the family left the tornados and harsh Oklahoma winters and returned to southern California and eventually settled in Ontario.

25 Years of Music and Art In Bear Valley |

Bear Valley, CA...This Season of the Bear Valley Music Festival marks the 25th year that the pairings of talented Musicians and Art by Arts of Bear Valley Artists, will be offered. The Summer Show, is scheduled to run from July 22nd to August 7th, in the beautiful Alpine setting of Bear Valley. The Perry Walther Building, across from the Music Festival tent, is the location for this event. Admission is free to this Summer Show. The Art Show will be open on all days when musical entertainment is featured and will close at the end of intermission.
