Arnold CA - Paula was a lifelong resident of Calaveras County. She was born in San Andreas and raised in Angels Camp. She attended Mark Twain Elementary and Bret Harte High. After graduating high school she worked at Hydrox Inc., Big Tree’s Market, Tim Magnusun DDS, and Mark Twain Hospital. Paula enjoyed cooking, painting, being a Nonna to granddaughter Ada, being around family and friends most of all.

Big Trees, CA...More than just a pretty landscape, Calaveras Big Trees State Park has long been a place where people can learn about the wonders of our natural environment. It was a perfect fit, therefore, to bring the California Naturalist Program to Big Trees. During the month of June 2017, 25 students completed the California Naturalist Course at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. These industrious students completed 40 hours of class, immersing themselves in the geology, hydrology, wildlife, forests, climate, and ecology of California, with a focus on the Sierra Nevada. They deepened their learning with readings, hands-on activities and field trips throughout the park.

Arnold, CA...Hazel Fischer Elementary Parents Club has brought back The Firecracker Mile! This "mile" race through Arnold will kick off the Annual 4th of July Parade. Runners and walkers welcome! July 1st, 2017 9:30 a.m. at the bottom of the Arnold Byway No parking at the race start. Catch the shuttle at Cedar Center at 8:00 and 8:30. Alpine County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has removed the winter snow, cleared the debris, made significant emergency repairs and expects to open State Route 4 (SR-4)/Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2017. The diligent work of Caltrans crews will allow for the opening of the pass for motorists who use this route.
