Angels Camp, CA...On February 23, 2018, Bret Harte FFA held their annual Petting Zoo Extravaganza. This event is planned for weeks by the Ag Science 2 class and one of the advanced floral classes headed by two committee chairs Rowan Perry and Dominic Santella. The event included a coloring station with a lesson on farming, animal mask making station, a small animal station, a large animal station, and a tomato seed planting station. We had a variety of animals which included rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, sheep, goats, and pig.

Murphys, CA...In another very happy ending to a local lost dog story. The NCPS's Sandy Rainey passed this along to us. "The Pine Tree News: FYI……………Yesterday, one of our employees, Steven Popish found the two dogs on the Tuolumne side of the river just south of McKays dam. We contacted the owners, who picked up the dogs yesterday. Note: They were very cold and very hungry. Good ending to the story."

Mark Twain Medical Center & Soroptimist Offering FREE Cholesterol Tests During February |

San Andreas, CA...As part of a continuing partnership with Soroptimist International of Calaveras County, Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) will be offering FREE cholesterol tests for women in Calaveras County during American Heart Month in February. This FREE screening is also known as a lipid panel. The test measures good and bad cholesterol and triglycerides helping to identify women at greater risk of heart disease and stroke. The “Take It to Heart Program” offers the free cholesterol tests throughout February to women who live in Calaveras County. A 12 hour fast is recommended or no food after midnight, as is proof of Calaveras County residency. Women needing the FREE cholesterol screenings do not need to schedule an appointment.

Arnold, CA...Winter is here along the West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada. Today Mostly sunny. Not as cold. Highs 19 to 34 higher elevations...34 to 42 lower elevations. Prevailing east winds up to 10 mph shifting to the southwest in the afternoon. Tonight Partly cloudy in the evening then becoming mostly cloudy. Lows 3 to 18 higher elevations...18 to 26 lower elevations. Prevailing southwest winds up to 10 mph in the evening becoming light.
