Posted by: thepinetree on 01/17/2018 01:34 PM
Cupertino, CA...Apple today announced a new set of investments to build on its commitment to support the American economy and its workforce, concentrated in three areas where Apple has had the greatest impact on job creation: direct employment by Apple, spending and investment with Apple’s domestic suppliers and manufacturers, and fueling the fast-growing app economy which Apple created with iPhone and the App Store. Apple is already responsible for creating and supporting over 2 million jobs across the United States and expects to generate even more jobs as a result of the initiatives being announced today.

Daimler Tests New Drone Delivery System...This One May Be A Tipping Point

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/29/2017 08:50 AM
Stuttgart/Zurich. In a global first, online orders were delivered in Zurich between 25 September and 13 October with the aid of Vans & Drones. In partnership with Matternet and siroop.ch, Mercedes-Benz carried out a unique pilot project to test on-demand delivery of e-commerce orders – and it was a resounding success, particularly as unlike comparable systems this trial of a van and drone solution was carried out over an urban area and over a period of three weeks. On 28 September, after the initial successful trials, a large group of journalists was invited to watch live as the first official drone landing on the specially equipped Mercedes-Benz Vito took place during a press presentation.

Posted by: thepinetree on 11/27/2017 08:34 PM
Cambridge, MA...Soft robotics has made leaps and bounds over the last decade as researchers around the world have experimented with different materials and designs to allow once rigid, jerky machines to bend and flex in ways that mimic and can interact more naturally with living organisms. However, increased flexibility and dexterity has a trade-off of reduced strength, as softer materials are generally not as strong or resilient as inflexible ones, which limits their use.
