Two Ways to Get Your Medicare Benefits ~ By Greg Dill |
Posted by: thepinetree on 09/07/2017 04:20 PM
|
San Francisco, CA...At a family reunion last month, my Aunt Abby and Uncle Glen got into a squabble over the best way to get their Medicare benefits. Uncle Glen is an Original Medicare man, and has been for nearly a decade. Aunt Abby prefers Medicare Advantage, which is similar to a health plan she had before enrolling in Medicare last spring. When they turned to me, asking me to referee and declare which form of Medicare is better, I gave them a big smile and answered, “Well, it depends.”

San Andreas, CA...August 31, 2017...Calaveras County Health and Human Services Agency - Public Health Division in conjunction with Dignity Health Mark Twain Medical Center issues a heat advisory for the County. We urge the public to act now to prevent heat-related illness. Temperatures above 108 degrees or more will continue over the next several days. Dr. Kelaita, County Health Officer, stated, “Taking action now can prevent the possibility of heat-related illness. Some health conditions such as obesity, fever, dehydration, heart disease, poor circulation, sunburn and drug/alcohol use can make it harder for the body to stay cool in hot weather.”

Health Precautions Advised for Smoke in Air |
Posted by: thepinetree on 08/30/2017 09:34 AM
|
San Andreas, CA....Smoke from fires burning in Northern California is affecting parts of Calaveras County
resulting in poor air quality that can be harmful to residents, especially persons who are more sensitive to the effects of smoke. The Calaveras County Public Health Division and Air Pollution Control District have classified the air quality as unhealthy for sensitive groups. The combination of extreme heat for several days and poor air quality from wildfire smoke can increase the risk of smoke related health effects. All persons who can see or smell smoke should avoid outdoor activities. Some people are more sensitive to the effects of smoke.

San Andreas, CA...Dr. Pardeep Athwal brings cutting-edge expertise to his new role as radiologist at Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) – but it was old-fashioned family values that brought him to Calaveras County. “I was away from family for way too long,” he notes. Dr. Athwal was born in Modesto and raised in Ceres, where his parents still reside. He has spent the past 15 years pursuing university studies and earning his medical degrees on the East Coast. Dr. Athwal received his Doctor of Medicine at the St. George’s University School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship at the University Hospital of Brooklyn followed by his Diagnostic Radiology residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center. He recently completed his Musculoskeletal fellowship at the University of Utah Medical Center.

|
Sonora, CA...Adventist Health Sonora is once again offering the American Lung Association’s Freedom From Smoking® course beginning August 29. Classes will meet each Tuesday and one Thursday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. for seven weeks at Pulmonary Rehabilitation, located at 19747 Greenley Road in Sonora. Freedom From Smoking provides a supportive group environment where adults work through the quitting process together with guidance from a respiratory therapist. According to the American Lung Association, “Research has proven that the more time a smoker spends in a supportive situation, the more likely he or she is to succeed. People who use [Freedom From Smoking] are six times more likely to be smoke-free one year later than those who quit on their own.”
