Angels Camp, CA....Angels Camp, CA....Take me out to the ball game! Tamara Dragmanovich and Karen Moore, two very dear people in our county have been diagnosed with cancer. To help support them and their families, the community is holding a Cancer Benefit Co-Ed Softball Tournament. The tournament will be held on September 13th at the Copello Park in Angels Camp. As of Thursday of last week there were 12 teams signed up for the tournament.....

Calaveras County, CA....Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital will be hosting a Health Fair for the residents of Copperopolis at the Saddle Creek Lodge on September 24, 2008. The Health Fair will begin at 7:00 a.m. and run through 10:00 a.m. “We are very pleased to bring this much needed service to our Copperopolis Community” said Hospital President Feliciano Jiron. “This mini-Health Fair is being presented the same week as our 10th Annual Health Fair on the hospital campus, but we recognize that many of the Copper Valley residents find the drive to San Andreas difficult, so we’re bringing some of the critical services right to the community”....

16th Annual Bear Valley Triathlon Brings Athletes from All Over! |

Bear Valley, CA....The 16th Annual Bear Valley Triathlon which was hosted by On Your Mark Events, attracted athletes from all over to come and compete in this fun and fast Triathlon! The Triathlon took place at Bear Lake in Bear Valley Village. It included a 600 yard swim, a 10.5 mile bike and a 3.4 mile run. The course was hilly but incredibly scenic. This event was competitive and timed. Top Men Overall 1st Place goes to Reto Warffler, 31, of Los Gatos, CA with a total time of 0.55:00. Top Women Overall First Place goes to Liesbeth Brouwer, 33, of Danville, CA. with a total time of 1:07:05...

Labor Day Weekend is one of the most busiest weekends of the year for camping and boating enthusiasts at Melones. With decreasing water levels and increasing boating crowds, boaters should be on the lookout for such obstructions as trees, debris and land areas that normally are well under the water’s surface........ |

Angels Camp, CA....On August 29th through September 1st, Labor Day Weekend, Greenhorn Creek Golf Resort, will be supporting Patriot Golf Day. They are one out of 2,000 golf courses nationwide that will be participating. Golfers will be asked to donate a minimum of $1 to the Folds of Honor Foundation. San Andreas, CA...On August 20, 2008, local public health officials were informed by the California Department of Public Health that a bird (oak titmouse) from San Andreas has tested positive for West Nile virus. This is the first indication of West Nile virus in Calaveras County in 2008. There have been no reported cases of humans or horses infected with the West Nile virus in Calaveras County thus far this year...
