San Andreas, CA...During April and May All Women in Calaveras County are eligible for a Free Lipid Panel Test. What is a lipid panel? The lipid panel is a group of tests to determine risk of coronary heart disease. They are tests that have been shown to be good indicators of whether someone is likely to have a heart attack or stroke caused by blockage of blood vessels or hardening of the arteries...

San Andreas, CA...We had the pleasure yesterday to record another Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital Quarterly Update. This time Larry Cornish is joined by the Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation's Peggy Lucas. MTSJ and the MTSJ Foundation have quite a bit of good news to share. The Hospital has done very well again in several different categories of patient satisfaction, physician recruitment and more. The MTSJ Foundation is proud to announce that they have now met their goal for the first Digital Mammography in the county and they are now starting their fundraising...

Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital recently announced the awards for their 2008 Endowment for Youth Program. Each year the hospital’s Thrift Stores provide funding opportunities for not-for-profit Calaveras County projects that provide services to children ages 0-18. For this funding period, $28,500 was awarded to 46 local organizations to support their youth programs. “We are very pleased to once again provide funding to support their organization’s mission, especially in today’s economic environment” said Thrift Store manager Diana Rodrigues. “Our community is blessed to have these.....

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation Director Peggy Lucas led a good sized group of staff from MTSJ as they delivered a van that was literally stuffed with food and donations for the Calaveras Food Bank. In addition to the food supplies they also gave HRC and Food Bank Director Billie J. Westernoff a check for $200 from MTSJ employees...

At the Annual Dinner and Installation of officers recently head at Ironstone Vineyards, Robert Hussmann from Angels Camp, the newly installed Foundation President, announced the success of a campaign to support Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital’s purchase of digital mammography technology. The first machine, funded by the Foundation, is scheduled to be installed in the San Andreas hospital in early fall. “We are so fortunate to live in a community that understands the importance of having a thriving health care facility and is willing to support it so generously,” stated Hussmann. The campaign for the second machine in Angels Camps is underway.....

Seems easiest to just skip that outdoor exercise routine on days like this. Don’t let winter weather stop you! Now I’m not a die-hard distance-runner or a marathoner (I prefer the bicycle for the long haul), but barring any serious respiratory ailments, I insist upon a 3-day-a-week, 3-mile routine for the heart, lungs and legs – rain, sleet, or snow. Angels Camp, CA....To meet the daily demand for blood, BloodSource must collect an average of 700 units of blood a day. Half the blood supply comes from donors who visit our community donor centers. Half comes from donors who sign up for mobile blood drives sponsored by their local community, place of worship or employer....
Some reporters will do almost anything for a story!
