Doris Barger, who at 91 is still active in moving healthcare forward in the area. Her efforts span decades and include being one of the founders of the Mark Twain Medical Foundation. Contestants have approximately three months to eat well and exercise to lose weight. The Medical Center is providing support to the contestants with nutritional therapy and biometric workshops to help them stay on track with their weight loss goals. Birth Center Taking Special Precautions to Protect Newborns from Flu |

Sonora, CA...Sonora Regional Medical Center has changed its Birth Center visiting policy during the current flu epidemic. Because of the rising number of confirmed flu cases in Tuolumne County, the Birth Center has established the following rules: Laboring mothers will be allowed two banded visitors during their entire stay. This includes the patient’s significant other. Banded visitors cannot be swapped with other visitors. Visitors under the age of 12 will not be allowed. This includes siblings. There will be no open visiting hours during this flu season.... |

The new gym has lots of great equipment in a sparkling new, downtown San Andreas location. They will be holding their Grand Opening Celebration on February 1st from 1-4pm. They will also be adding an assortment of classes at San Andreas Town Hall in the future....

Angels Camp, CA...On Thursday, January 16th the Mark Twain Medical Center Orthopedic Specialty Care office in Angels Camp was packed. The Chamber Mixer was hosted by Doctors Craig Lovett and Doctor Elisabeth Siegler and staff. The mixers and mingle'ers enjoyed Calaveras County wine and some great appetizers. Mark Twain Medical Center under Hospital President Craig Marks' leadership has been very aggressive in recruiting and retaining high quality health care providers. They have also had an increased focus on specialty care and making sure patients can receive care close to home. Pictures of the revelry are below....

Sonora, CA...The Mother Lode Office of Catholic Charities is conducting a Patient Health Advocate volunteer training scheduled for Tuesday, February 18th. The goal of the Rural Wellness Alliance Project is to improve the effectiveness of interactions between Primary Care Providers and those over the age of 50 in an effort to increase adherence with medical treatment and improve health outcomes. The Project encourages older adults to self-advocate as well as improve their self-management skills... |
