Catholic Healthcare West (CHW) Community Grants Awarded |

Stockton, CA...At a recent awards luncheon at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Stockton, four Calaveras County organizations received a total of $22,000 from the 2010 Catholic Healthcare West (CHW) Community Grant Program. The awards were presented by Feliciano Jiron, President and CEO of Mark Twain St. Josephs Hospital, Larry Cornish, V.P, Facilities and Project Development, and Lew Steele, Vice Chair of the Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Healthcare Corporation Board of Trustees. The awardees included the Calaveras Children’s Dental Project, the Calaveras Senior Center, the Resource Connection Early Childhood Programs and the Resource Connection Food Bank to support their community projects. Each year Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital and Catholic Healthcare West seek to partner with Calaveras County nonprofit organizations who are working to improve the health status and quality of life of the local communities....

Cost to Treat Heart Disease Will Triple by 2030 |

DALLAS, Jan. 24, 2011 -- The cost to treat heart disease in the United States will triple by 2030, according to a policy statement published in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association. "Despite the successes in reducing and treating heart disease over the last half century, even if we just maintain our current rates, we will have an enormous financial burden on top of the disease itself," said Paul Heidenreich, M.D., chair of the American Heart Association expert panel issuing the statement....

Jamestown, CA...All I can say is Wow!!! In this economy it seems like there is just no good news where health care is concerned. But I was delighted to find a clinic that caters to the needs of all patients. Even the uninsured. When insurance premiums increased to the extent that the equaled a mortgage payment, many people simply had to cancel their policy. It became a luxury that many American's could no longer afford. Sadly, residents all over Tuolumne and Calaveras counties are uninsured and not receiving the medical care they need. .....

Washington, DC..The House passed a resolution repealing the Obama Health Care legislation. It was largely a symbolic vote as the Democratically controlled Senate will most likely vote down the repeal along party lines just as the vote today was along party lines in the House...
