Mark Twain Medical Center is Once Again Promoting Pink in the Night in Honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) will be promoting the importance of early detection of breast cancer, followed by prompt treatment, saves lives. The entire community is invited to participate in the annual ‘Pink in the Night’ opening ceremony September 26th, in Valley Springs at the Terrace’s (Common Grounds) at 7:00pm. All those who currently have breast cancer, survivors and support providers will be able to light a candle in tribute to those who are currently battling breast cancer, or in remembrance of those that bravely lost their battle. “We at Cal-Waste support the FIGHT against Breast Cancer,” exclaimed MaryBeth Ospital, Community Outreach Coordinator “We will be showing our support during the lighting ceremony and will have one of our trucks lit up in pink lights. Be sure and look for our trucks with pink ribbons around town!”

October is National Breast Health Awareness Month and Sonora Regional Medical Center is hosting the fourth annual Ladies Night Out to help the community celebrate life and as a reminder for everyone to get their recommended screenings. Ladies Night Out is scheduled from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 6, in historic downtown Sonora.

San Andreas, CA..Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) will be holding its 18th Annual Fall Health Fair on Saturday, September 24th from 7am to noon at the Hospital Campus in San Andreas. “We are once again delighted to provide these needed health and well-being services at a low cost for our community,” said Bob Diehl, Hospital President. “MTMC will continue to enhance and build upon the healthcare needs for those that we are privileged to serve. We are grateful for the continued collaboration at this event with the many outstanding organizations that align with our Mission, Vision and Values. Angels Camp, CA...Enjoy the Sierra Foothills on a 5K/10K race through the historic town of Angels Camp. A community sponsored run that benefit the students of Mark Twain Elementary School. This race will kick off with a Kids 1 Mile Fun Run at 8:00am. 5K & 10K will start at 8:30. All races begin in historic downtown Angels Camp at The Visitors Center. The race will conclude at Utica Park in Angels Camp. Along the race route, runners will enjoy many scenic and historic elements along the way to include Angels Creek, Gold Cliff, Lightner Mine, views of Bear Mountain and Greenhorn Creek Golf Course. It is not uncommon to spot grazing deer, wild turkeys, an abundance of birds and our resident cattle and horses.

Boston, MA....This is the best visualization of the progression of antibiotic-resistant bacteria we have ever seen. The following is from the Harvard Medical School that should have all of us cutting back on the antibiotics. "In a creative stroke inspired by Hollywood wizardry, scientists from Harvard Medical School and Technion-Israel Institute of Technology have designed a simple way to observe how bacteria move as they become impervious to drugs. The experiments, described in the Sept. 9 issue of Science, are thought to provide the first large-scale glimpse of the maneuvers of bacteria as they encounter increasingly higher doses of antibiotics and adapt to survive—and thrive—in them.
