Off The Beaten Path 10K/5K Run/Walk to Raise Funds for Mind Matters Clinic...(Updated)

Murphys, CA...Competitive runners, and people who just enjoy a stroll in the verdant countryside, are invited to take part in the 7th annual Off the Beaten Path on Saturday, April 28 in Murphys Community Park. The money raised will go to support Mind Matters, the Murphys based non-profit clinic that treats autism and other learning disorders. The multi-faceted event will feature a 10k run, open to men and women of all ages, that will take participants down Six Mile Road, past Ironstone Vineyards, and back. Medallions will be awarded to first, second and third place winners. Participants who would rather walk and chat than run are encouraged to do so. The 5k course will be to Ironstone and back. Families are welcome to bring their tricycles, bicycles, strollers, etc. and join the fun.

Hosted by John Krutsinger of Edward Jones in Murphys, the event partners with three community non-profits; Hospice of Amador & Calaveras, Mark Twain Medical Center Foundation (MTMCF), and Mind Matters. Ageless – A Prescription for Healthy Aging by Robert Pokorski, MD will be held on Tuesday, April 3rd, 12 noon at MTMCF, 768 Mountain Ranch Road, San Andreas. Murphys, CA...Autism or autism spectrum disorder [ASD] describes a category of complex disorders of brain development. There are varying degrees of difficulty in social interactions, verbal and non-verbal communication, repetitive behavior, and/or restrictive behavior. As you can imagine this disorder is not only a challenge for the individual, but, also for the entire family, extended family, school and/or work peers and educators, the treating professionals, and the community at-large. There are many steps to take to come to terms with the diagnosis and how to handle it. We have talked in a previous blog about what one can expect and how to move forward after receiving the diagnosis. Today, I would like to offer some helpful ways to talk with siblings.
