San Andreas, CA...Dr. Dean Kelaita, Health Officer, is urging Calaveras County residents to get vaccinated against influenza (the flu) this season as soon as possible. In California, flu usually begins to increase in late November or December. It takes a couple of weeks after vaccination for the body to respond fully, so now is the time to get vaccinated to have the best protection as the flu season begins.

San Andreas, CA...Breast cancer survivor Tina Macuha, one of the Sacramento region’s most popular television personalities, will headline the Oct. 24 Steps to Kick Cancer Luncheon presented by Mark Twain Medical Center. It will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in a tented pavilion on the hospital grounds. Tina has appeared on the CW31/CBS13 morning show "Good Day Sacramento" since its inception in 1995, covering just about any topic you can imagine on this fast-paced, fun show. In April 2009, she shared her breast cancer story on the show. Recently marking her tenth anniversary as a survivor, Tina continues to share her journey at many breast cancer events.

Valley Springs, CA...The Valley Springs Health & Wellness Center is slated to open with a Grand Opening Celebration on Friday, October 18, 2019 located at 51 Wellness Way in Valley Springs - corner of Hwy 26 and Vista del Lago. It will begin at 10:00 am with a guest speaker and a ribbon cutting at 11:00 am. Then tour the new facility right after, with light refreshments served.

Mark Twain Medical Center is equipped with generator power to maintain hospital operations for an extended period of time. We test and train for power outages on a regular basis. During the power shut off, we will continue to operate essential hospital services, including our Emergency Department.

Sonora, CA...The PG&E public safety power shutoff has now reached Tuolumne County and Adventist Health Sonora facilities equipped with generators are running on back-up power. Services that will continue to provide care throughout the outage include: Emergency Department, Med/Surg, Birth Center, ICU, Surgery for emergency cases, Long Term Care, Home Health, Hospice, Sonora Oxygen Supply.

San Andreas, CA...The Calaveras Public Health Division will be opening an Access Functional Needs (AFN) shelter to provide an environment with electricity to assist the population with durable medical devices required to maintain life. AFN individuals with electrified durable medical equipment i.e., ventilators, oxygen generators, and their one caregiver may be permitted access to the shelter. The location for Calaveras County will be Mountain Oaks High School at 150 Old Oak Road San Andreas 95249.
