Supply of Licensed Child Care is Not Recovering to Meet the Needs of Working Families |

Calaveras, CA...As California’s economy continues to recover and parents are entering the workforce in increasing numbers, access to affordable, high quality child care is essential. Working families depend on child care programs which also provide learning experiences critical to their children’s development. Yet, according to the 2013 California Child Care Portfolio, a report released today by the California Child Care Resource & Referral Network, in Calaveras County there are just over 909 licensed child care spaces available to serve an estimated 3,178 children whose parents are in the workforce. For families able to find child care that does meet their needs, all too often high costs limit their ability to access that care....

San Francisco, CA...Dignity Health, one of the five largest health systems in the U.S., announced the findings of a nation-wide survey on the power of humankindness in health care and the perception of kindness in our society. According to the survey by Wakefield Research for Dignity Health, 87 percent of Americans feel kind treatment by a physician is more important than other key considerations in choosing a health care provider, including average wait time before appointments, distance from home, and the cost of care. Yet, 64 percent have experienced unkind behavior in a health care setting, including the failure of a caregiver to connect on a personal level (38 percent), staff rudeness (36 percent), and poor listening skills (35 percent)...
