San Andreas, CA...Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC) is pleased to share with the community that they have successfully recruited another Licensed Clinical Social Worker to their outpatient counseling services in Copperopolis. Dean White, LCSW, ACM will be seeing patients at the MTMC Copperopolis Family Medical Center. Dean has a Masters of Social Work, from California State University San Jose, has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for almost twenty years, and additionally holds certificates in Medical Ethics, from Albany Medical College, Certificate in Palliative Care, from CSU Shiley Institute- and is a an Accredited Case Manager, NBCM.

FDA Denies Authorization to Market JUUL Products |

Washington, DC...Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued marketing denial orders (MDOs) to JUUL Labs Inc. for all of their products currently marketed in the United States. As a result, the company must stop selling and distributing these products. In addition, those currently on the U.S. market must be removed, or risk enforcement action. The products include the JUUL device and four types of JUULpods: Virginia tobacco flavored pods at nicotine concentrations of 5.0% and 3.0% and menthol flavored pods at nicotine concentrations of 5.0% and 3.0%. Retailers should contact JUUL with any questions about products in their inventory.

New York, NY...Breakthrough findings were presented at the 2022 ASCO Annual Meeting and published in The New England Journal of Medicine today by researchers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) confirming a clinical complete response in all 14 patients who received the immunotherapy treatment dostarlimab as a first-line treatment for mismatch repair-deficient (MMRd) locally advanced rectal cancer. This new approach of “immunoablative” therapy uses immunotherapy to replace surgery, chemotherapy and radiation to remove cancer.

Atlanta, GA...On May 18, 2022, a U.S. resident tested positive for monkeypox after returning to the U.S. from Canada. As of May 18, 2022, no additional monkeypox cases have been identified in the U.S. Scientists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are collaborating with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to investigate a situation in which a U.S. resident tested positive for monkeypox on May 18 after returning to the U.S. from Canada.

Amador County, CA... This Friday, May 20, 2022, the COVID-19 vaccine clinic will be held during the health fair at First 5 Amador, located at 975 Broadway in Jackson, from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Next week, The Health and Services Building (HHS) COVID-19 vaccine clinics will resume as scheduled on Tuesday mornings from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM and Friday afternoons from 1 PM to 4 PM. To book a COVID-19 vaccine clinic appointment visit the myturn.ca.gov website. Walk-ins for vaccination must arrive 30 minutes before each clinic ends. Appointments may be scheduled for homebound individuals by calling Amador Public Health at (209) 223-6407. Retail pharmacy COVID-19 vaccination availability may be checked at vaccines.gov.
