Calaveras County, Ca... "Hospice is a concept of care that treats the person, not the disease, and emphasizes quality of life, not the duration." Since 1982, Hospice of Amador and Calaveras has been working to meet the needs of those nearing the end of their lives. Hospice care neither hastens nor postpones death but exists in the hope and belief that through appropriate care, patients with life-limiting illnesses may live their remaining days pain-free and with dignity, and their families may accept and find their own new beginnings....

Murphys, Ca...An $8 thousand grant from the Sonora Area Foundation will make it possible for Mind Matters, the Murphys based clinic that treats autism and related disorders, to extend its programs in Tuolumne County. “It is our goal to provide our multi-faceted services in Tuolumne, Amador and Calaveras counties,” states Dr. Ryan Thompson, the clinic’s founder and CEO/Medical Director. “Through the years, the generous contributions from the Sonora Area Foundation have helped us pursue that goal.” Since 2010, the foundation has made grants totaling $40 thousand to Mind Matters. This money has been used to provide such programs as Fast ForWord, a computer based reading and language intervention program, to young people in Tuolumne County. This program has proved to improve reading achievements in area students...

An Incredible Day For Young Trey Jarnagin!

Posted by: thepinetree on 06/03/2014 04:43 PM
Arnold, CA....If a fundraising dinner is a sellout you know it was a successful event. With over 650 dinners sold, thousands more raised in silent auctions, throngs of people in attendance, the events was an impressive display of community generosity and caring. A Day For Trey event was a showcase of what a great community we have. The circumstances behind the fundraiser are heartbreaking with young Trey Jarnagin. He is battling a rare form of Lymphoma that requires weekly chemo treatments. One of the things that always amazes us about our small communities is when someone has something bad happen in their lives our area opens it's hearts and wallets to help out...

What is Your Fitness Level?

Posted by: thepinetree on 05/11/2014 02:57 PM
Angels Camp, CA...Determining your health and fitness depends on five things, body composition, muscular strength, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility and muscular power. It’s possible to have low body fat and high muscle mass, and therefore a higher weight, which could categorize someone as overweight or obese when that’s really not the case. It’s better to look at the five elements and think about both health and fitness, rather than simply rely on your BMI or the number on your scale....
