Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) and other Community Partners Raise Impact of Steps to Kick Cancer Awareness Luncheon |

San Andreas, CA...The Oct. 24 Steps to Kick Cancer awareness event at Mark Twain Medical Center is the largest luncheon ever planned on the hospital campus – thanks to financial support from Sierra Pacific Industries, the Mark Twain Health Care District and the Calaveras Cancer Support Group Fund of the Calaveras Community Foundation. MTMC President and CEO Doug Archer explains, “The participation of these groups helps elevate the impact of our Oct. 24 event, funding a tent pavilion and added hospitality for the large number of guests expected at this complimentary, sit-down luncheon. It is on a much larger scale than previous luncheon workshops.”

Pink Shoes Kicking up Excitement for Steps to Kick Cancer Luncheon |

San Andreas, CA...Pink shoes will be parading around Calaveras County prior to and at the Steps to Kick Cancer Luncheon on Oct. 24 at Mark Twain Medical Center. “Pink is the well known signature color for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October,” notes Debbie Sellick, president of the Calaveras Cancer Support Group. “So we figure it’s appropriate to have pink shoes kicking up excitement for this great event.” The luncheon is from 11:30 to 1 p.m. Seating is limited and reservations are required. Mind Matters Clinic Celebrates Successful Fundraising Event! |

Murphys, CA...Mind Matters, a non-profit clinic located in Murphys that diagnoses and treats individuals and families affected by autism spectrum disorders, ADD/ADHD, and learning disabilities, held its first annual fundraising concert “Music & Minds Matter” on June 22, 2019 at the Twisted Oak Winery in Vallecito. This successful event was well attended and raised over $10,000 to support the important work done at the clinic.

Washington, CA...Today, Planned Parenthood Federation of America announced that the Trump administration, through an unethical and dangerous gag rule, has forced Planned Parenthood grantees out of Title X, the nation’s decades-old bipartisan program for affordable birth control and reproductive health care. Planned Parenthood health centers have been a part of the program since it was created nearly 50 years ago, and have been the largest provider, serving 40 percent of all patients who get care through the Title X program.

Calaveras County Says Oral Health Matters |

Calaveras County, California, August 13, 2019 -- Calaveras Public Health is excited to announce the release of the Calaveras Oral Health Needs Assessment. The report tells the story of oral health in the county. The Calaveras Oral Health Program will use the needs assessment to direct the program to meet the oral health needs of the community. The Oral Health Community Needs Assessment is a study performed by the Calaveras County Health and Human Services Agency, Public Health Division, that showed that 76% of Calaveras residents valued their oral health, yet 68% of people have suffered tooth loss. Oral Health is a term used to talk about the health or your mouth, teeth, tongue, gums and upper throat. Poor oral health is linked to other health problems like as diet, heart disease, diabetes and cancers and as well as self-esteem, and school and work attendance. Cavities are one of the most common chronic diseases in the United States, yet they are 100% avoidable. A person with poor oral health can also have a hard time speaking, eating and smiling.

Calaveras County Public Health Issues Heat Advisory to Residents |

San Andreas [August 13, 2019] – Calaveras County Health and Human Services Agency - Public Health Division issues a heat advisory for the County. Temperatures of 95 degrees or more will continue over the next several days. Dr. Kelaita, County Health Officer, stated, “Taking action now can prevent the possibility of heat-related illness. Some health conditions such as obesity, fever, dehydration, heart disease, poor circulation, sunburn and drug/alcohol use can make it harder for the body to stay cool in hot weather.”
