Letter To The Editor From Golden State Cellular's Dan Rule...."Local Cellular Company Puts Public Safety Before Profit"

Posted by: thepinetree on 08/21/2008 10:28 AM
Sonora, CA...Dear Neighbor, Recently, as reported in the local newspapers, there was a cell site outage for several days in our area by another provider. While Golden State Cellular is not immune to service interruptions, the approach we use for our system is quite different. We build and maintain all of our sites with public safety in mind – and in some cases this means forfeiting profit. Every Golden State Cellular cell site has state of the art monitoring equipment and alarm systems that immediately alert our engineering staff of any service issues 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We also have a Snow Cat for remote bad weather access and backup generators and/or solar power at many locations. If a situation is detected which cannot be corrected at our Network Operations Center in Jamestown, we immediately dispatch a crew (all of whom live right here in the Mother Lode) to the site and repair it within hours – not days. Golden State Cellular cares about first responders, law enforcement and firefighting personnel when it comes to reliable and available cellular service...

San Andreas, CA...The Murphys Hotel will finally get a new sign. In what has been a lengthy process the Murphys Hotel has won the right to replace the aging sign with a new recreation of the 1940's era sign that adorned the front of the Hotel. This will also allow them to remove the dying tree that has gradually become a safety hazard as well as a mounting point for the current sign. This has been a controversial project. Some in the community including Supervisor Tom Tryon have not wanted to see a neon sign go up in Murphys. In speaking with Hotel Owner Dorian Faught a few weeks ago he explained that the new sign will...
