Oil & China Continue To Drag Markets Down |

New York, NY....The Dow Jones Industrial Average is down over 500 points in intraday trading as the worldwide oil glut, dropping oil prices and uncertainty in China's stock market continue to weigh on markets. The only silver lining is that dropping gas prices continue to help energy costs for businesses and consumers.

Angels Camp, CA...Alan H. Corell, passed away January 14, 2016, at his home in Angels Camp, CA, surrounded by his family, at the age of 79. He was born in Angels Camp, CA, to Calvin “Red” and Shirley Corell. Alan is survived by his wife Patricia of 54 years, a son Richard, and two daughters Debbie (Chad) Roots, and Cherie (Jeff) Gomes, and four grandchildren, Jesse, Ashlee, Tara, and Tyler.

Calaveras County Contracts with CodeRED to Provide Emergency Notification Services |

San Andreas, CA...Calaveras County has implemented the CodeRED system, a high-speed emergency notification service provided by Ormond Beach, FL-based Emergency Communications Network. The CodeRED system is an important tool for Calaveras County emergency planning and communications outreach. By using the system’s capabilities to send telephone calls, text messages, emails and alerts on social media, the County will effectively inform residents and County personnel so as to protect life and property. The Public Safety agencies of Calaveras County will use CodeRED to keep the public notified in the event of an emergency.

Mountain Ranch, CA...At the beginning of the new year, plans are underway for a unified effort in three counties to help Butte Fire survivors. Three Motherlode Community Foundations have come forward to express their commitment to that long-term recovery. Each will be assisting in accordance with the mission of their own Foundation, and will be cooperating with Calaveras Recovers and each other as plans and projects unfold. The three foundations will be meeting after the first of the year to discuss their cooperative efforts.

New York, NY....The Down Jones Industrial Average dropped almost 400 points on China concerns. Wal-Mart was one of the only bright spots. China has said that it will remove the circuit breakers that have kicked in the last few days. The market is so far off to the worst start since 1991. Experts expect it to turn around but there are a few rumblings of another 2008. Most don't believe this will happen as most of the fundamentals of the US economy are fairly solid.
