Angels Camp, CA...We had the pleasure to spend a few minutes talking with Dennis Graspointner who is the President of the ownership group for the new McDonalds in Angels Camp. He had great things to say about how the City of Angels Camp has treated them and made sure that inspections and other details have been handled quickly and smoothly. City Development Director, David Hanham has also been on site helping them make adjustments as the project has developed. An example of this is the outside patio seating recently added to the plans for the front of the building...

Copperopolis, CA...THE MARKETS: Fortune magazine showcased a headline on Friday that read, “Who can magically fix the economy?” A picture of a magician pulling a skunk out of Uncle Sam’s hat was comically pictured below. The article went on to read: “There is nothing that the U.S. government or the Federal Reserve or tax cutters can do to make our economic pain vanish overnight. There are no all-powerful, all-knowing superheroes or supervillains who can rescue or tank the economy all by themselves.”1 Do you agree with the quote above? We do. The simple truth is, no one has a magic wand. Some politicians peacock as if they do. Some analysts would have you think they do. But as a nation, we’ve suffered a huge financial setback. Home values – investment accounts – jobs – all

Vallecito, CA..The Tough Mudder Team did a bit of local adventuring before they jetted back to “Tough Mudder” headquarters Tuesday afternoon. Cave and Mine Adventures invited them to a Zip Line Adventure. We thought we would tag along camera in tow to see if the Tough Mudder's were tough enough to Zip Line without a whimper or cry. (I barely made the weight limit, and the friendly cave staff warned me not to trim and trees with my legs!) The Team easily measured up to the test with smiles on their faces. After the Zipping we had the chance to spend a few minutes talking with the Tough Mudder founders Will Dean and Guy Livingstone. It's a fascinating story as Will Dean really is a Tough Mudder as he was a counter terrorism expert for the British Military...

Copperopolis, CA...THE MARKETS: Thursday marked the end of a quarter and the end of a month. Both turned out to be favorable for equity markets. Although September is historically one of the slowest months of the year, this September wasn’t slow at all. Last week’s slight drop followed four straight weeks of gains that allowed the month to go down as the strongest September since the days of World War II – 1939 to be exact. For the month, the S&P gained 8.8%, the Dow rose 7.72%, and the Nasdaq advanced 12.04%. For the quarter, the S&P gained 10.7%, the Dow added 10.4%, and the Nasdaq rose 12.3%, even as the U.S. economic recovery remained tepid...

Copperopolis, CA...The scheduled debate with Russ Thomas vs. Darren Spellman was billed as a Chamber of Commerce and Copperopolis Business Association led, organized and moderated event this evening in the Old Amory. The event went downhill and was over before it ever got started. During the candidates opening statements Candidate Spellman stated that because the Chamber Board President, Mark Luster's company, SPI had contributed to Supervisor Thomas's campaign he felt the questions may be biased. He then stated he would only answer questions from District 5 residents that were spoken to him and not written down ahead of time....
