Jamestown, CA...The old mine site in Jamestown looks to be heading to a second life with the approval of a new project by the Tuolumne Supervisors today. About the project...Gold Rush Gardens is a mixed use project that has been Master Planned to be a mixed use World Class destination attraction located on an assemblage of land that includes the former Jamestown Gold Mine site and two adjacent parcels. The range of uses is proposed to include: - 65 acres of formal Themed Gardens similar to Butchart Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The Gardens will include lakes, streams, and informal landscape areas. Grapes and olives may be incorporated as a landscape component and allow for some production of wine and olive oil as well. In total, the Gardens and related uses will encompass more than 100 acres. Various commercial uses are incorporated into the Gardens and are proposed to include wedding chapels and reception facilities, eating areas, and offices...

Jobless Claims Up A Tick To 484,000 According to Report

Washington, DC...In the week ending Aug. 7, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 484,000, an increase of 2,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 482,000. The 4-week moving average was 473,500, an increase of 14,250 from the previous week's revised average of 459,250....

Washington, DC...Total nonfarm payroll employment declined by 131,000 in July, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 9.5 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Sonora, CA...Already providing 3G service from several sites in the Sonora area Golden State Cellular announces the addition of Mobile Broadband to their cell site located off Camage Avenue in the East Sonora area adjacent to the SPI facility. With customers increasing appetite for mobile data applications such as: email, internet access and picture messaging, 3G Mobile Broadband provides a more robust data experience with higher data rates (speed) and the ability to transfer larger files, stream video and music. A good sized crowd was on had to toast and plot their latest business conquests. Bear Valley's Jim Gentling held court in the conference room giving presentations on the upcoming "Tough Mudder" Challenge to be held at Bear Valley in October...

CALAVERAS VISITORS BUREAU UPDATE

Hello CVB Members and Friends! Here’s a quick update on some of the things we’ve been up to...Calaveras Takes the Gold…Again! Hopefully by now you have heard that Calaveras County took the Gold again at the California State Fair! This year’s theme “Passport to Adventure” played out with a lifted yellow Jeep as the centerpiece of the display. Whimsically spilling out from the Jeep are several Calaveras Adventures. There is also a dedication to Mark Twain where fairgoers can read some of his original writings. We have about 100 volunteers from throughout the County who work the exhibit each day giving out tons of Calaveras literature. Comments so far indicate that attendance this year has surpassed previous years. We have already had visitors at the Visitors Center who came here because of the exhibit. Someone even called and ordered Calaveras t-shirts after seeing them as part of the display! The fair runs through August 1st....
