Lowest Initial Jobless Claims Since November, 1973

Washington, DC...In the week ending July 18, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 255,000, a decrease of 26,000 from the previous week's unrevised level of 281,000. This is the lowest level for initial claims since November 24, 1973 when it was 233,000. The 4-week moving average was 278,500, a decrease of 4,000 from the previous week's unrevised average of 282,500.

Update On Temporary Closure of the Red Hill Annex Yard Waste Site

Vallecito, CA...The County is working to reopen the facility as quickly as possible and still provide necessary improvements & repairs for the operations of the site. The County is going to be making repairs and improvements to the current water system. These improvements will need to be brought before the Board of Supervisors for approval. Once these action items are completed, the County will be grading the site to improve and enlarge the yard waste
collection area.

CCWD Reduces Water Use By 40 percent In June

San Andreas, CA...With an incredible 40 percent reduction in June, there is no doubt that Calaveras County
Water District customers are serious about saving water. This reduction is two-and-a-half times the 16 percent reduction required by the State Water Resources Control Board. The State compares current water use to the same time period in 2013.

Calaveras Taxpayers Announce Three New Taxpayer Alert Shows

San Andreas, CA...Three new shows have been uploaded to YouTube and can be accessed at CalaverasTaxpayers.org. "Taxpayer Alert" is a public service effort by volunteers and sponsored by the Calaveras County Taxpayers Association and the Public Access Television Studio. The programs are also viewed on Comcast Cable Channel 7. Taxpayer Alert invites public officials and experts to review current issues and hot button topics. At election time, candidate forums are video taped for public information.

Murphys, CA...Wayne Brown, who retired as the Superintendent of the Stanislaus Union School District, has been chosen to be the first full time Executive Director of Mind Matters, the Murphys based non-profit clinic that is noted for its innovative treatment of autism and similar disorders. “As an educator, I am very much aware of the work being done by Mind Matters and how it can improve the lives of young people and their families,” says Brown. “I am pleased to have been chosen to lead the organization, to help it extend its programs and to secure the necessary funds to make that possible.
