Columbia College Graduates Future Fire Fighters

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/27/2016 03:46 PM
Columbia, CA...Columbia College’s Fire Academy will hold its graduation ceremony and presentation of Certification of Completion to 34 successful students of the Fire Technology Program. The event, which is open to the public, will be held at Columbia College, Thursday, April 28th, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Oak Pavilion. Students in the program have successfully completed the academic and manipulative training as mandated for a California Firefighter Level One. The students must still complete six months of full-time or one year of part-time field experience before applying to the state for Firefighter I Certification. “After receiving associate degrees in Fire Technology at Columbia College, several have already been hired by CALFire, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Tuolumne Rancheria Tribal Fire Department. “Some of the students will pursue jobs at the College Fire Department and others have obtained intern or volunteer positions,” said Shane Warner, Program Coordinator and college Fire Technology instructor.

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/27/2016 04:24 PM
San Andreas, CA...A $50,000 grant from the California Endowment was given to Calaveras Recovers recently through the Amador Community Foundation, which is the fiscal sponsor of the local group dedicated to recovery from the Butte Fire. In April, concrete foundations were poured for the first two homes being built by Calaveras Recovers for the uninsured survivors of last year’s Butte Fire. Licensed general building contractors and specialty contractors such as plumbing, electrical, sheet rock, roofing and painting contractors are encouraged to join up with Calaveras Recovers, by attending a meeting such as next Monday, May 2, 2016 at the LDS Church in San Andreas.

Tax Freedom Day Comes Late for California Again

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/27/2016 05:18 PM
Sacramento, CA...California residents who have filed their income tax returns by April 18 must wait a little longer to breathe a sigh of relief. Even after mailing their tax forms, Californians still have 12 more days until they've collectively earned enough money to pay off their total tax bill for the year. Calculated annually by the Tax Foundation, Tax Freedom Day is when Americans have earned enough money to pay their annual tax obligations at the federal, state and local levels. California's Tax Freedom Day lands on April 30 this year, six days after the national mark of April 24.

401(k) Plans ~ From Brian J. Tewksbury

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/26/2016 12:23 AM
Murphys, CA...Qualified cash or deferred arrangements (CODAs) permitted under Section 401(k) of the Internal Revenue Code, commonly referred to as "401(k) plans," have become one of the most popular types of employer-sponsored retirement plans. How does a 401(k) plan work? With a 401(k) plan, you elect either to receive cash payments (wages) from your employer immediately, or defer receipt of a portion of that income to the plan. The amount you defer (called an "elective deferral" or "pretax contribution") isn't currently included in your income; it's made with pretax dollars. Consequently, your federal taxable income (and federal income tax) that year is reduced. And the deferred portion (along with any investment earnings) isn't taxed to you until you receive payments from the plan.

All Vehicles Accounted For At 49er Motors & Closure Of Business Leaves Hole In Community

Posted by: thepinetree on 04/26/2016 01:04 PM
Angels Camp, CA….We have received confirmation from Officer Butler of the Stockton CHP office that all of the vehicles from 49er Motors have now been accounted for and were part of normal transactions. We have also been assured that there are no open DMV issues. The closure of 49er Motors leaves a hole in the community and businesses like it are a vital part of our local economy. With the exception of a few large chain stores most of our local businesses are the hopes and dreams of people who live, work and raise their families here. They are not faceless entities but the people at the next table in a restaurant, pushing a shopping cart behind you in the store & sitting next to you at a sporting event.
